"Earlier, over on Capitol Hill, there was a rally and march to support the fall of the Islamic Republic organized by the Organization of Iranian American Communities." The Islamic Republic has not fallen! I wish these people would live in the real world.

So Trump wanted to get a more compliant leader into power in Iran to avoid nuclear weapons being built.

So he kills the guy who was actually against nuclear armaments because they declared a fatwa on them. Kills his wife and other family members and now his son is in charge who is a hardliner that wants to build nuclear weapons AND now will want to avenge his family.

Strong work guys. No notes.

Hey Dom, thanks for providing a nuanced report on the goings-on over the weekend. Appreciate you. Stay safe!

Nae Kings!'s avatar

Hey I was at one you missed Dom! A couple of dozen of us showed up at DC Superior Court to support Brian McGinnis the marine vet and NC Green Party candidate who had his arm snapped by Montana’s grossest Senator and a squad of Capitol Police. He needed surgery and was given a pre-trial release. Unusual to get a weekend hearing but as the DC jail wouldn’t be dispensing pain meds saner and more humane heads prevailed and moved him up the court docket.

He is still facing three counts of assault on a police officer, because of course, he might have bled on them. The judge didn’t seem overly concerned about letting this dangerous one-armed lunatic back on the streets. But he did tell Mr. McGinnis to stay away from the Capitol and provided him with a helpful map to show him which streets that entailed.

Presumably he had time to attend one or more of the events Dominic reported on.

Donut store gas. Not in any container. Ever.

Yes, I know Everybody and their Dog sells gas containers, but that is only for lawnmowers and

industrial equipment like generators that you do not have. Handled by trained professionals.

I only know this because I survived the last gas crisis in the '70s in spite of myself. Really.

OT Florida Woman in Tesla story:

-----

A 35-year-old Florida woman armed with an AR-15 style weapon fired several shots into the Beverly Hills-area home of pop star Rihanna on Sunday, and a round penetrated a wall of the mansion, a law enforcement source told The Times.

Police identified the suspect as Ivanna Ortiz. She is being held on $10.2 million bail. Officials have not cited a motive for the attack.

Los Angeles police responded to the report of the shooting at 1:21 p.m. Sunday in the Beverly Hills Post Office neighborhood.

The pop star was home, the source said.

According to police, the suspect fired multiple rounds from inside her vehicle toward the celebrity’s home. No injuries were reported in the incident, according to Police Sgt. Jonathan de Vera, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department.

The LAPD radio dispatch for the incident said that at least 10 shots had been fired at the residence from a vehicle across the street from the property’s gate. The vehicle, a white Tesla, then fled south on Coldwater Canyon Drive, per the dispatch audio.

As police searched for the Tesla, they relayed details over the radio: The suspect’s hair was in braids; she wore a cream-colored blouse; her car was dirty on the bottom. Officers in a helicopter soon caught sight of her vehicle and followed it to a shopping center parking lot in Sherman Oaks, where they arrested her around 30 minutes after the 911 call came in, according to radio correspondence reviewed by The Times.

“When they pulled the suspect over and took her into custody, they searched the vehicle and located an assault rifle and seven casings,” said Armen Arias, an LAPD spokesperson.

Police found bullet holes in a gate at Rihanna’s home and in an RV parked in the driveway, he said.

In the 1980s my sister became a Bahai convert. Unlike me, she never left the Chicagoland of our teenage years; that is where the stunningly beautiful Bahai Temple stands, and her faith allowed me access to its inner sanctum as well as introduction to several Iranian Bahai refugees who had fled what was becoming an increasingly lethal crackdown on their faith in their homeland.

The Bahai Iranians tend to get lost now in the discourse. Maybe it's that so many of them settled and prospered in my old neighborhood, embedding themselves deep into the fabric of the community. But I also suspect that they represent a peaceful and inclusive faith at odds with the long-peddled stereotype of Iran--which is to say: stereotypes used as propaganda are always lies, and must be questioned.

'$100 Million Of Gold Arrived From Venezuela': US Confirms Transfer Amid Mining License Move

The United States has received $100 million worth of gold from Venezuela, US Interior Secretary Doug Burgum confirmed, as the Trump administration pointed to a broader push to assert control over the South American nation’s natural resources.

“On Friday, there was $100 million of gold that came from Venezuela to the United States. Venezuela’s got $500 billion of resources of gold," Burgum said.

In mining-speak, "resources" are things that seem to be there in the ground, "reserves" are things that you're pretty sure are there and could be profitably dug up. So if they are using mining-speak, what they are talking about is not at all current bars of gold.
