see? totally routine [contextly_sidebar id="0MIqCtMLPGyH5hu4KunBHx5hy4jSap5m"]A few weeks ago, we got the entirely expected, yet still incredibly depressing, news that no cop would be indicted for Sandra Bland's death, because haha suckers, cops pretty much never do get indicted. And let's face it: the grand jury had many many other, albeit far stupider, options to consider, like that Sandra Bland killed herself because she was
I always get a conditional ticket aka a "fix it or ticket" ticket. Get the bulb replaced, the muffler fixed, the state inspection done, etc. within the next x hours (or days) and bring the proof (or your car) down to the station within that time frame to show us that you took care of it, and the ticket will be rescinded. I have never actually gotten a fine for anything like that.
Standard traffic stop questions, rural North Woods department:
"Where ya from? Staying long? Oh, so ya live here, do you? Funny, I don't recognize you. How long have ya been livin' here?"
"You're a(n) [surname]? What family is that? Who ya related to?"
"Yah work where, now? Ya don't say? Hey, do ya know [name of person who may or may not have worked for the same employer at some point in the past 20 years.] No? But ya do work there, right?"
Well, technically the car's reg had been renewed and was current, so you were in compliance. And the officer could have verified that on his computer by running your plate number, which he had probably already done. I don't know if TX mandates auto insurance coverage, but if so he would have been able to check that while sitting in his front seat too. Your only problem was not having the new sticker displayed in your window, but that's a very minor infraction.
No fine - just the PITA associated with waiting for this clown to slog through his process, and then schlepping down to the station and filling out paperwork - another wasted hour of my time - when 90 seconds could have taken care of the matter.
I'm just pointing out that in this case, they did what we usually scream our heads off about - they brought someone in who has no connection to the law enforcement community in that area and has no clear conflict-of-interest.
Larry Rogers Jr., a Chicago attorney representing Bland's family, said Tuesday that the legal team will renew its efforts to examine the findings of a Texas Rangers investigation into her death, which has been withheld because it was grand jury evidence....Waller County District Attorney Elton Mathis, who appointed five special prosecutors to handle the Bland case, has said there is nothing in that investigation "that shows anything happened but she killed herself."
Black.
And back then I had a Christopher Reeve body (really). We should have gotten together.

Ooh, baby, ooh!
Special prosecutors always win. Ask Ken Starr.
A stern talking to with votes.
Aw I knew that part. I tend to ignore those types, except when I am voting against them. Every time in every election because off years count a lot.
Vote early! Vote often! It's the Chicago way!
Which rocks

And now with the open-carry law in effect the gun death rate will be bigger, too.
