I’m not going to say he’s closeted because I don’t really know and as Evan said, it’s not important.

I do know regardless that his favorite war movie has to be 300.

So, what is the *waist to height* ratio 🤔? 1:10, 3:5, 5:8??

Leonardo, are you here?

Pete Hegseth, moseying up to the bar, red hat on backwards, wearing his bestest "warf ighters" t-shirt: "How do you do, fellow heterosexuals?"

At least we'll get AI in ancient Sumerian.

I recently saw a pair of documentaries on YT by a former 84C MOPIC in the US Marines, a motion photographer.

His thesis is that Marine Boot Camp is spiritually destructive and totally stupid. Much of what goes on these days looks like narcissistic abuse and humiliation rituals, some being sexual in nature,

I had thought the point was tough training as a rite-of-passage then earning the respect due a Marine, but it looks more like being brainwashed into a cult, and the stupid, cult-like rituals and nonsense continue in regular service. One sequence features a Drill Instructor found guilty of hazing a Muslim recruit until the unfortunate young man committed suicide.

It was eye-opening to say the least.

Shit, my CC's called me a communist in boot because I wouldn't kneel for the company prayers.

I know this is not the same, but I did a High School military boarding school. We had West Point-style discipline. Standards were high but I didn't feel like I was being abused, and I was certainly not set up to fail unfairly. There were bullies but not amongst the senior cadets nor Cadre.

I excelled at the cadet part, my platoon sergeant used to tell the platoon that they should match my standards of integrity.

I was forced to go to Protestant Chapel on Sunday.

Part of basic military training is to get the individual to identify with the unit rather than any ethnic or social group they were previously a part of. But the Marines consider themselves a special fraternity and have their hazing rituals.

All basic did for me was teach me to sleep anywhere.

I bet you're sleeping right now!

Couldn't they just play football or baseball or something? And hit some sweat lodges? And do some trust exercises?

The Imperial Japanese military was much the same: physical chastisement was common in the lower ranks, and is possibly the source of the "beatings will continue until morale improves" meme. Recruits were called "senrin", a miniscule amount of Japanese currency that both denoted their lack of worth and the cost of mailing the draft notice.

The common soldiery, lacking a means of striking back at their tormentors, simply displaced it onto the helpless civilians around them in their various conquests. And it earned Japan a reputation for barbaric cruelty in its geographic neighborhood that it hasn't fully lost to this day.

Thank you, I'll have to learn more about this. Apt.

One thing this guy showed was regular Marines, the Friday Barracks Inspection was a forced fail. If every Marine's room and gear was spotless the officers and NCOs would just fail everybody anyway, taking half their weekend for stupid make work. You can't win, the leadership just make the shit roll downhill.

It turns out to be a frat boy camp? And people are supposed to respect the military? Animals are better.

Anna-Elizabeth's avatar

It was shocking and horrifying to watch.

Just because...

I don't see him as closeted gay. I see him as straight, but with a far lower sex drive than he has constantly been told he should have. He's a gropey sex pest and cheat because he needs to reassure himself he's "all man". Hence this posturing shite.

Meccalopolis's avatar

He a narcissist who worships an idealized male form to which he can never measure up.

Years of alcoholism have probably fucked up his sex drive and self image.

Hegseth is like a rich boy whose daddy buys him expensive show horses, and who rarely rides them between competitions, but instead marches up and down in front of them wearing jodhpurs and polished riding boots, snapping his riding crop and exhorting them to win. The horses, who have known better riders, wish he would stop annoying them.

People who feel like they’re getting away with something are trouble. Write that down.

General Kurt von Hammerstein-Equord said there are four kinds of staff officers:

Smart and Energetic: These are the guys you want doing the real work.

Smart and Lazy: These guys you want at the top calling the shots since they'll never do more than they have to but they'll do it well.

Dumb and Lazy: These are the grunt work guys, give them mundane stuff.

Dumb and Energetic: GET RID OF THEM. They'll make a hundred mistakes before you even notice the first one.

Guess which Pete is?
