The Afghanistan withdrawal was Trump's program. Like Waco was started by Bush the Elder. JFC.

Note to both current and potential Republican candidates for office; Your hard core Republican voters are very aptly called the "Base", because they certainly are. You will be forced to abandon any dreams of personal dignity you ever had to get them to look favorably upon you, debase yourself in ways you wouldn't wish on your worst enemy. So you want to be a swineherd? Get used to feces-tainted muck, and lots of it. And never forget that you must not only pander to an audience of would-be mass murderers and witchburners, but you simultaneously must dance seductively before the old Troll King and win his grudging approval, licking his hooves clean day and night and never betray the slightest whisper of a shadow of a doubt of your unstinting loyalty to one of the worst human-shaped things you will ever encounter , and it is a joy to serve as his toilet paper, your dream come true.

Republicans keep tying Trump’s indictments to the election, as if presidential candidates gets free pass to commit crimes if they’re leading in the polls.

There’s no sense in trying to make sense of what Rogers said, because he doesn’t believe such an absurd claim. There are currently FOUR indictments playing out for the former tv game show steak salesman, in four jurisdictions and dealing with 4 different situations of criming. If Biden, the confused, senile evil genius, HAD directed the DOJ to attack ā€œhis opponentā€ congress would know it. There would be calls, emails, a trail. Obviously that’s as stupid as The Big Lie, but massaging stinky maga toes is all these fools have to hold onto these days.

"Centrist" is just code for "hidden RW asset"

WTF does it MEAN to be a centrist in existential times as these? What would a "centrist" have looked like during the rise of the third Reich? Now as then, there can ONLY BE one of two possible sides to be in...The position from the center is a myth...A lie...A wolf in sheep's clothing

Let me put this way: If he were alive today, Reagan would be to the left of any of the ā€œcentristā€ republicans.

The Wehrmacht's field officers tried to be "centrists" within the Nazi regime, and all found themselves sacrificing the lives of their subordinates to follow the iron clad, ill informed and not infrequently stark raving mad orders that came down from the Fuhrer. Their patriotic service was used to gain territory for homicidal maniacs to run riot in and stir up a white hot hatred among the occupied populations that resulted in the extension of the zone of hostilities all the way from the front line to the German borders, with no safe "rear" without constant threats. And in the last three years, the Homeland was under constant merciless attack from the air, so even home wasn't safe.

There is no room for "moderates" or "centrists" in an authoritarian regime; you are with them or you are against them or you are merely the toad beneath the harrow.

Jesus. Why can't this guy take a nice, cushy job in his family's highly successful grocery business and just enjoy his money and STFU instead of annoying us all with his whiny neediness.

After his vote to impeach Trump I wrote him thanking him for putting country first and party last. After that I got his newsletters and I could agree with him at least half the time. The newsletters quit when he was primaried out but still in Congrease. He should now change his name to Darth because it looks like he is attempting to go over to the dark side.

Well, technically he did try to give back pre-Congress, he's a veteran and/or Reserves, which with his trust fund he did not have to do. But, yeah, his generation does not really involve themselves with the day to day running of the company anymore, beyond checking their trust funds. His grandmother passed 8n the last year or so, and she was the last link to the family works day to day in the company,so it's even money if they sell as soon as probate's over, or give it a year.

Again, I think we should lean into the Afghanistan withdrawal: Joe got us out, Trump didn’t do shit. Fuck the conventional wisdom.

that does not sound like a winning issue; the images of US soldiers once again scrambling not to be left behind while under fire from all sides, the stories of the Afghani collaborators left to the pitiless Taliban, they were all over the news for a week or two and left an aftertaste of something very like abject defeat. So what if Cadet Bone Spurs set it all up, the MSM sure as shit won't remind people of that fact, and the Republicans began shamelessly politicizing the withdrawal as "weak", "cowardly" and "disgraceful" as soon as the first reports of Taliban attacks on the airports and the retreating troops came in.

The Party of Treason has already poisoned that well, and we would be fools to drink from it.

That's not true -- Trump negotiated with the Taliban to ensure a proper disorderly transition of power to the terrorist organization once U.S.. troops were on their way out.

And Trump completely bypassed the Afghan govt and negotiated directly with the Taliban

he is always more comfortable with his peers (the damned). Being around good people makers him feel he is being judged and found unworthy (and he is correct in that perception) so he acts out around them to get their full attention, hoping that by the sheer brute force of his thirst for approval he will at least dominate them if not bully them into admiration.
