I hate these people. I hate them so goddamn much.

Arcade "games" on the White House website... bad ones, at that. No one can accuse this administration of bringing style, grace, or even intelligence to the First Residence. I guess I really have lived too long.

The only good thing here is that the younger folks they're desperately trying to attract and indoctrinate are already too sophisticated to bother with this trash.

And when I say trash, I'm referring to Trump and his minions... all white trash. And being as white as a human can possibly be, I get to make that comment.

Sure enough:

White House pulls Tetris-style 'Build The Wall' game after copyright concern

The White House has taken down a Tetris-style game on its website called "Build The Wall", days after The Tetris Company raised concerns over its use of the game's likeness.

...

On 4 September the official Tetris account on X posted the firm was "not involved in the creation" of the game and it took "copyright infringement very seriously".

...

"At Tetris we believe in the power of connection and building people together, not dividing them," the firm said in its initial response to the game.

The zombie wall one reminds me a wee bit of Bombliss, a Tetris clone that was not released officially in the US but was available through the NesterDC ROM collection on Sega Dreamcast. It was eventually released in the US under the name Tetris Blast.

Going to make my first foray into AI use in the next week. We have a lot of data with hand writing that is nearly impossible to decipher, so my boss suggested having ChatGPT try it. This is one of the things I said to call me if it can do it. It will be nice if it works.

Anzu's avatar

My problem with AI is that I'm a perfectionist, and what AI produces is at best "first draft" grade and not something I'm comfortable releasing under my name.

Having an LLM tackle difficult to read hand writing, however, is a perfect use case for it. OCR technology is already decades old, but it took the modern LLMs to be able to detect the patterns needed to actually interpret hand writing instead of just trying to read the characters and put it out as a text file. Levels of error correction and what not.

Just be sure to verify the results every time.

They're pushing us to use AI at work when it makes sense (?). They had two training thingy's on it, and the biggest take away for me is that it's all about knowing how to 'prompt' well to get the most out of whatever it spits back at you.

My boss uses it to score written responses on one of the projects she's working on. There is good support for using computers to school written mechanics and style, but less support for scoring content. To score the paragraphs, she submitted the scoring criteria and asked to see the rationale and she found that the scores it was giving her were consistent with what she was scoring.

This is a problem of the TV manufacturer's own making. They drove the prices down on these TVs so low that they need a different way to actually make a profit on each set. Maybe don't do that? (I know ... end stage capitalism)

Dystopia? You're soaking in it!

Noma Larkey's avatar

The thing I hate about 'smart' TV's is that everyone we've ever had eventually stops streaming as well, so we end up using a roku device with it instead of whatever thing it came with. So then you have to program the Roku remote, and sometimes you still have to use two remotes for certain things. I with you had the option of buying a non-smart TV and just using whatever device you want. But I guess there's no profit in that. They gotta over complicate everything, thinking they're making it easier.

Jen Is Slightly Explosive's avatar

The thing is, they're making profit already selling them cheap, just by the slave labor they use in manufacture. They do not NEED to do this to make profit.

They just want more profit.

Land Shark 🇺🇦 🏳️‍⚧️'s avatar

From everything I've read, the margins on those TVs is incredibly thin ... even with the lower labor costs. LG is *usually* a reliable company ... we have an LG washer.

Jen Is Slightly Explosive's avatar

I wonder who is doing those articles saying TVs are super cheap.

TVs are not "cheap". They're not doing it out of the goodness of their hearts after all. They are making bank, I would bet on that, just not as much bank as they want to be making
