Uhh, "horse collar" was not the most notable term for the grille of the Edsel.

And yet I'm pretty sure there's at least three or four in the greater Raleigh NC area. I can't believe there's even one.

Y'all heard of damning with faint praise? Bloomberg compliments with faint criticism. Bloomberg, the problem with the Cybertruck is not that it's ugly. There are plenty of Americans who revel in that.

The problem with the Cybertruck is that it is a hideously expensive piece of shit. It was over-promised, not well designed, and notoriously plagued with poor build quality. That need not have been fatal. Tesla could have cracked down on the build quality issues and redoubled it's efforts to upgrade at least a few of the Cybertruck's features. But like most of his pet projects, Elon Musk lost interest in the Cybertruck as soon as people stopped fawning over it. There are REASONS why people compare him to a twelve year old.

If I had to guess, would estimate the majority of IncelCaminos are driving around LA. I know b/c I can't see around any of these f*ckers and the other hawgs on the ground, from my 1979 VW Beetle.

The original Tesla designers have produced a cute & considered electric truck on a Mini wheelbase, worth checking out

Interesting design. I think it looks funny, but they're getting a whole lot out of that wheelbase. I also like how it embraces some of the features of the latest in-name-only pickups, yet specifically address some of the worst criticisms, like poor visibility and a tendency to drag pedestrians underneath the vehicle in an accident.

There's a shocking number of them in the Portland area, at least the 'burby parts. My neighbor bought one of the first ones, and I've been grumbling for two years about having to see that goddamn abomination in his driveway every time I go past it.

Okay, wandered onto this thread hours late.

So my apologies if anotherwonk already said it (Magic 8 ball says probability is high).

But Saint Elon’s company that made him the richest man in the world is cratering right now. The earnings call (where he sounded like he was in a K-hole although he said he was sick) scared the fuck out of Wall Street.

TSLA massively missed earnings. To compound that, the earnings they did claim had to do with their ownership of Spacex stock, as of June 30th. So the thing that made them profitable at all has subsequently cratered in value.

Then the high AF Elon told the earnings call audience that they were massively retooling their production lines to build autonomous vehicles and robots (humanoid). Neither of which is presently proven technology (at least the Tesla version of autonomous vehicles) nor a presently commercially available product.

If you want to be amused, look at Tesla stock today. It definitely brings a smile to this bot’s face!

There's a cybertruck that parks by my coffee place; one day somebody slapped a bumper sticker on it that said "I'm a piece of shit, and the world revolves around me." LOLHaHaLOL

I saw one once with one of those "I bought this before Elon went crazy" type stickers on it. They're either an IRL troll (likely) or someone who doesn't understand linear time.

Yonic is an underused word.

Socialist Sweden designed their own damn battle tank and skipped putting a turret on top! Damned NATO socialists in action! The low profile design made it a hard target to acquire and the automated gun loader fired a shot every three seconds. Too bad they stopped building it. It looked cool as fuck and if they had added the current drone control technology to its design it could roam the battle field with no human crew at all.

Seriously, given a chance to jump into one of these or a cyber truck I would go with the Swedish tank every time.

Sweden should sue the fuck out of Elon for bastardizing the S-Tank design.

I think it's great that America's dumbest and weakest incels advertise their shortcomings by wasting their parents' money on these laughably bad-looking joke cars. Thank you, Elon, for your attention to this matter.

I once canceled an Uber and had to wait an extra 30 minutes or so for another ride because they tried to send me a driver in a Cybertruck. Worth the wait and the cancelation fee. I wouldn't be caught dead in one of those things.

Getting in one is also a way for you to get caught dead if the pic at the top is any indication.

Yonic.

I learn so much here.

Rapid Unscheduled Disassembly also applies.

Also, it looks like something I drew up in third grade when my rellies gave me a drafting set for my BD. Drafting board? T-square? Triangles? Rulers? Compass? Check!

It's essentially the mirror image of the Pinewood Derby car I made while I was a Cub Scout. In 1977. Me, and a thousand others I'm sure.

FWIW, GMC builds the Hummer as an incredibly expensive EV. On one hand, it's cool that EVs are becoming more popular, but on the other, it's still a massive, gaudy monstrosity that has to be a pain in the ass to drive around parking lots.

The Nissan Leaf is my idea of a great personal car.

Just nowhere to put my ladder, hence my Outback.

Well, the difference between the Edsel and the Cybertruck are in the engineering. The Edsel was actually solid - well crafted (sadly, I can remember it). It sold on that reputation. The CT, no so much. Following the "launch" edition, so many issues were immediately brought to light in the overall construction, materials, fit and finish. So much so that Elon insisted on an NDA (remember the uproar?) shortly after the rollout. Now it's issues with the GLUE used to hold, like, the accelerator pedal on is failing, oh, and that little fire thingie... When you look at Tesla, the primary difference - the only difference in the model lineup is that; the CARS are based on an architecture that predates Elon taking ownership control of the company. When engineers paid absolute, meticulous attention to the underlying details to evolve the CARS into the solid brand that they are today. The TRUCK is all Elon. His ego project. His disregard for attention to detail and of engineering necessary to deliver quality in a finished product. The failure of the Cybertruck is all on him.

My husband is leasing a Model Y. Whle waiting to take delivery, the regional Tesla dealership had a Cybertruck in the showroom. It's a beast of a vehicle, but walking around and seeing the interior, now mind you, this was in the showroom, parts were hanging off it, the finish did not match between the door panels, many of the plastic trim pieces were warped. That was just on a quick, visual inspection. I wasn't there to be hypercritical of it (okay, I was), but was left with the impression of "Jesus, didn't anyone think to check this shit before rolling it into the showroom?" Meanwhile, my husbands Model Y... solid. Never, ever seen a vehicle put together so well! He's almost at a year with it, and no one issue, squeak or rattle.

And no, we are not Tesla bros. I drive a Rivian. My husband needed a replacement for a daily driver, wanted an EV, and at that time, the only thing in his price point with the accoutrements he wanted was the Model Y. He looked at and test drove everything he could get his hands on; new and used. That was last September and when the BIDEN era tax incentives were going away. There was nothing on the lots and nothing in the pipeline, and at the point, all of the manufactures, GM, Ford, Nissan, Honda - were all tucking tail on manufacturing EV's. The Model Y checked all the boxes.

Concerning the Edsel, I don't think people wanted a combination of a kissy face and a toilet bowl on the front of their cars.
