OMG that is so Catholic. Pro choice man does not need less waffers, he needs MOAR waffers, so he will have so much Jesus body in his body he will wake up one day yelling about baby murders, just like Jesus did.

I'm a dyed-in-the-wool atheist, but I can see that people have differing needs for closeness, community, and faith. We seem to get our community here, but for some, the church gives them much more. I am not going to pee all over people whose needs are different from mine.

There's a lot of inspired music from all churches. I do not count "Christian Rock" though. That stuff is anathema.

I'm talking partly about passion in the performances. In my experience, singing of hymns in white churches comes across as a rote exercise in obeisance.

Mel Gibson and others of the Opus Dei movement want a return to Latin masses and everything else pre-Vatican II. Clarence Thomas goes to a church run by Opus Dei priests (and Scalia used to).

Francis is changing the Church's stand on birth control, which is more than a little risky. The day he was assassinated John Paul I had a meeting with the US ambassador to the Vatican to warn him he was about to do the same thing, (His stand about cleaning up the Vatican Bank, enforcing the ban on Masons in the Curia, and returning the church to its poor origins were probably the actual triggers though.) Of course John Paul II reversed his predecessor's policies.

Bishops Walter Curtis and Edward Egan--Egan went on to become Archbishop of NYC eventually--from the Bridgeport [CT, USA] diocese come to mind. These sh*tbags shuffled pedo priests throughout the county, destroying numerous young lives. But hey, Catholic hierarchy, let's talk about aborting zygotes and keeping women out of the organization in any meaningful way. Gee, I wonder what made me leave the church and become a disbeliever in all things CloudMan? Hmmmm.
