So what part of Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei, or New Guinea was she from?

If you are referring to someone from India, that person is Indian.

The names West Indian and East Indian refer to areas colonised or surveyed by the Dutch West India Company - the West Indies (countries in the Caribbean), or by the Dutch West India Company - the East Indies (the group of islands in the Indian and Pacific Oceans between Asia and Australia).

On the other hand, if you are talking about the accent of someone from eastern India (as opposed to other parts of India), and you can distinguish the different accents of people in India, then I guess you could call that an East Indian accent, and I sincerely apologise.

Also, ObB, native English speakers generally would put an article (a, the) before the term. Also, we don't take this personally--we understand you just have a job to do, and appreciate you conforming to the expected standards of civility here when you visit.
