Weird how conservative white men never seem to direct their fake rage toward vasectomies. Those also contribute to fewer bouncy babbies, and allow for pleasure-only boning. I wonder why that is? I had one yesterday, that’s why I ask. I really did, I’m too old for another kid at age 50, imho. Maybe if I were Robert DeNiro or Al Pacino, I’d be cool with having babbies at 80, knowing full-well the high likelihood that those kids will lose their fathers before they reach high school. But I just can’t afford a full-time nanny to raise them.
One moral, for the moralistic: keeping contraception accessible and covered by insurance is the one sure way to lower the abortion numbers. The fact that you are (surreptitiously) trying to achieve the opposite of that--criminalizing contraception too--shows that you don't care.
You don't care about what happens with those "unborn lives" this plan will result in. And you certainly don't care about the born lives who have to deal with unplanned pregnancies. All you care about is pursuing your own agenda all the way to hell. But not back.
My son was planned, but I was 37 years old, and have at least one underlying health condition. There is no question in my mind that had I lived under a dystopian theocracy like one of these 'Red' states, I would have never tried to get pregnant in the first place, and would have quickly sought an abortion (no matter how illegal) if I had become accidentally pregnant. I was willing to face the risks associated with the pregnancy because I knew that would be able to access appropriate and timely medical care, up to and including a therapeutic abortion, if required. If I had known at the onset that a complete stranger with no medical training would be charge of deciding whether I would live or die in the case of complications, I would have cheerfully remained child-free.
That's why I think the abortion bans will backfire in the attempt to force more white women to have babies. Some may decide on a permanent solution of a tubal ligation or a vasectomy for their spouse instead of an IUD or pills "just in case" they change their mind later or get divorced and want a child with their new spouse. But I don't think it will increase the number of white babies in families that can adequately support another child. Because those women can afford to travel to Maryland, Illinois, or California if they can't get an abortion locally.
Just a little personal experience. Shortly before Roe was decided a friend of mine in North Carolina called. I lived in Maryland then, about 15 miles outside of DC. His girlfriend was pregnant and with her parent's support was arranging an abortion in DC where it was legal. We were all 18 or 19 years old. I agreed to pick her up at the airport and take her to the motel she was staying at and volunteered to pick her up the next day to go to the clinic, but she declined. I did pick her up the morning after the procedure and got her on the plane going home. It may not have helped a lot but I hope having someone she knew there part of the time made it a little less lonely. So even back then you could find a place to get a safe, legal abortion. If you could afford the travel.
By the way, when Roe came in it did not take long for abortion clinics to start appearing in North Carolina. In fact when what I think was called the Helms amendment, named after the NC senator known as a precursor to MAGA, went in effect and blocked most federal funds under Medicaid for abortions, NC established a state supported abortion fund in the late 1970s to cover abortions for women eligible for Medicaid but not meeting the stringent requirements for a Medicaid funded abortion. Which was repeatedly cut in the 1990s as Republicans and the religious right started gaining power and it finally ceased in the late 1990s.
Sex Ed for your 50s and 60s. Also tax breaks for sex toys, lube, and condoms would be a good political platform. Might even get a few Republican women to switch parties. Let’s use threesomes as a wedge issue.
"**Some** might take this to mean that accessible birth control is a more effective way of reducing the number of abortions than abortion bans are."
The RWNJs who keep pushing for less and less bodily autonomy for women are not among them. Because, contrary to what they loudly claim, their efforts have abso-fucking-lutely *nothing* to do with caring about the lives of unborn babies.
Again, for republicans, the cruelty is the point. The two minute hate of "1984" has been transformed into the 24 hour hate on Hate Radio. And of course the misogyny, always the misogyny.
There is absolutely no reason to have a child in this burgeoning Gilead, especially with a captive 'justice' branch. And we take away all kinds of support from people. Why add more mouths to feed? There's nothing in that future. That's one reason I am glad I did not and will never have children.
Kicking Planned Parenthood out of red states resulted in more women and girls not getting birth control, resulting in more unwanted pregnancies. That, and red states' insistence on stoning any attempts to provide sex education.
the more women pregnant th more are out of the work place and dependent on men not competning with them. If some women die because you can't terminate a deadly pregnancy, we so be it - it is not like a man will die, only an unimportant woman. They are also going after birth control and the no fault divorce filed by women, it is OK is a man filed it. Force the woman to stay with an abuser, no biggie.
Maybe it's all because of the "abortion tourism" Republicans are whining about - with cities like Paris, Venice, etc. offering free airfare and hotels if you get an abortion. Who could pass that up?
I tried calling my local heating and air company to see if they offered those special baby boiler systems to get my bill reduced but they hung up on me.
There are other funds. AVOW in Texas, Yellowhammer Foundation in Alabama, and others to whom I donate on a regular basis - even if it's only a small amount (which it is) it's better than nothing, that help women with reproductive care. I believe, in fact, that the Satanic Temple has a fund to help pregnant people.
I'm sorry that donations have slowed down, but maybe the names of those organizations that help could be mentioned more often, and in more places?
TST started Samuel Alito's Mom's Abortion Clinic in New Mexico! Women's Medical Fund (WMF) supports direct assistance for pregnant people in Wisconsin.

Ta, Robyn. I would like to see: 1. Comprehensive, age-appropriate sex ed, 2. Access to contraceptives, and 3. Access to abortion WHENEVER it's needed.

But then, you already knew that.

This is the terrifying thing for any woman in a ban state faced with a problem pregnancy: your doctor might not same you.

I assumed also that abortion is up because contraceptive access is likely down in Red states.

I am assuming you are all up to date with The Split. It really doesnt seem that far fetched
no, it does not...
I have to start reading it. Hoping it's as topical as billed.
it truly is
Here in Nazi Abattoirworld, neither does The Handmaid's Tale.

Mani/Pedi/abortion
And if you think an increase in abortion will give the forced birthers pause.....

I;m not surprised. Thee codeword for babby is 'pizza'. Be more discrete next time!
