He also noted on Truth Social that South Korea had recently declined to join the US in the "denuclearisation" of Iran.

Of course those exercises are expensive. A renewed war in Korea could be over in a couple of weeks, so we have to be ready to reinforce with lightning speed. That requires ongoing, detailed practice.
It's still way cheaper than any of the alternatives. A massive exercise once a year sounds like a lot, but it's way cheaper than year-round forward deployment.
Mao condemned millions of Chinese to starvation because of his boneheaded idea that all the guys who had been growing and harvesting rice should instead be put to work in backyard steel micro-furnaces. Rice rotted in the fields while farmers, at the demand of Party cadres, melted their pots and pans into useless lumps of metal.
