Wait.

They write a story about how he had to practice this. How it was all a stunt. How it was not real at all.

And they STILL think it was a good thing?

I mean, ok yeah, I am super duper cynical, I will admit that, but are the good folks at Axios fucking brain dead?

Vance: "Yep."

Jimmy David, in his more honest clip, says, "I talked to the president afterwards . . . and I said, 'Sir' . . ."

Every word out of this rascal's mouth is a deception. Tiny Hands isn't the president. No one calls Trump "Sir."

Mrs. Cleaver knew what Eddie Haskel was up to probably because she figured it would be good for the Beaver to stick up for himself. And she probably dug on the obsequious flattery (NYT ref).

So Vance’s model for a debate persona is the stranger who offers kind words and candy to children to get them into the car.

What has been achomplished is that Vance is in the news cycle, and that corporate media has swallowed "I am too a real boy" hook, line, and sinker.

Now we'll have to deal with this twerp until way past his expiration date.

Ta, Evan. JD's words were almost mainstream, but his body language was not. He was twitchy, blinking up a storm, and looked ready to burst out of his human suit.

So close, Axios. The word you're looking for is "cynical".

Has anyone read the article at the Empty Wheel about the debate? I have chills down my spine and I NEED reassurance from Wonketteers. I think Liz and others generally respect the reporting and opinions from those folks. Empty Wheel - if I interpreted correctly, said Vance accomplished his mission very effectively, and reassured the conspiracy theorists and wacko GQP that he’s their man. The MSM failure to fact check Trump/Vance is all he needs now or in 2028. Vance is one heartbeat away from the presidency if Trump wins, and will be the Pres candidate in 2028 if they lose in November. Kamala and Coach campaign need to attack Vance and his lies NOW, remind voters of that heartbeat.

"Donald Trump created his own fictional character, the successful tycoon who gets things done by firing people and exacting revenge.

JD has no such persona. He has, instead, a flawless ingratiating ability to deliver lies credibly."

This is a great observation by Marcy Wheeler.

I’ve been impressed with Marcy’s analysis for a while now, which I never would have known about without Liz.

The Harris/Walz campaign has been so successful in such a short time. I hope they address the lies more in the home stretch.

Marcy is a NatSec wizard. She's usually spot on, and thus I don't read her blog too often because there aren't enough Xanax and blood pressure pills in the world.

The situation with Vance's preparation for the debate is evidence that some of the MAGATs can be trained--conditioned--to be temporarily semi-human, but it doesn't last. They soon revert to their feral states and become the creatures that they have always been.

The nation needs to invest in a bunch of "Skinner Boxes" because if tfg loses in November they'll be a real problem. Placing tfg and his rabid creatures in such boxes will be an interesting experiment that will keep psych departments busy and well-funded for a long time.

(It's as if the story of Gilgamesh and Enkidu is reversed. The wild man Enkidu, after being civilized by The Woman and brought into the city of Uruk, decides "the hell with civilization" and wanders back to the oasis to live among the beasts. Vance would also search for some couches and sofas because women don't seem to be his main interest. Creating an etiological narrative for today's Repub Party is difficult but that's the best I could do on short notice.)

JD was as believable as a used car salesman. The slick fast talking guy with the suit and expensive watch. Every adult has seen this act hundreds of times over their lives, and it never fails not to convince.

And BTW, he called Walz "Tim" the whole time, not "Governor Walz" (while Walz called him Senator Vance). He also insisted on calling the moderators, both women, by their first names, doing it multiple times as if to demonstrate that he had no problem relating to them in a condensending , casual way. Hardly nice behavior.

I agree. Trump has conditioned America, especially the MSM to normalize “alternate reality” and outrageous comments. The entire GQP has jumped on the bandwagon and the dems were slow to call them out. They’re doing a lot better, Jasmine and Jamie and others are up to speed now taking the fight to them and being more proactive. We need a lot more of this, from a lot more Dems. I think Coach is so honest he was taken off guard by the slick salesman several times at the debate. Coach won with that memorable last jab.
