Gotta love Florida. A teacher sharing a video glorifying the Confederacy with accompanying racist commentary by the teacher is found to have done nothing wrong and the video is not banned. Teachers showing animated movies about Ruby Bridges or tangentially showing LGBTQ characters are reprimanded and the movies are banned.

You got it right, I think. I like the implication that "what" stands in for an unidentified plural.

Karl Marx was interested in the economy of the South, and wrote a number of articles about it. He predicted the Civil War well before the shelling of Fort Sumter, many (most?) of the large plantations were making more money breeding humans to sell than they were growing cotton, and relied on that income to stay solvent. When Congress prohibited new territories from legalizing slavery it was a massive blow to the large slaveholders who controlled the Southern states. Since every other major country besides Brasil and China had already outlawed slavery the closing of the new territories left them without a market for their principle product, Marx predicted that as their inventory built up to ruinous levels they would revolt and attempt to force slavery on the North. Lincoln was interested in Marx's analysis, especially the part where the South inevitably failed because of its refusal to industrialize. It's claimed that they corresponded, but if they did it's been lost.

"War To Prevent Southern Independence"

The teacher is fundamentally incorrect, the South didn't want independence it wanted to conquer the North and run the whole show. "Boston by Christmas" was a rallying cry early in the war.

“Confederate History Month?”

Image if Germany had “Nazi History Month” and a teacher called WW II the “war to prevent German independence” while showing a video about German soldiers valiantly fighting for the right to exterminate Jews.

How do you think people would react to that teacher?

It all seemed a bit odd to me, but what the hey. Good job! And as you doubtless know Greek soldiers still do wear those skirted outfits for ceremonial purposes. And white tights, and little ballet flats with pompoms. They may get a lot of practice fighting.

They actually thought they could conquer the North and impose slavery everywhere in the United States. Lee, their only truly competent general, knew better, from the first he was of the opinion that the South could not win. I've never understood why he join the cause, except maybe that he hated black people. He was a terrible slave owner, his wife actually sued him for mistreating her slaves so badly.

Wonder if the fucker ever considered not being a racist piece of shit and extolling the virtues of a failed country that literally declared war on the united states of America

I shudder to think what he taught that "special class" about the holocaustAnd no, he would be suing the state, not the school district, if that were so

Depends on the state. They'd probably love it in Florida.

That part about another colleague "turning" students against him as if students couldn't become uncomfortable to be in his class all on their own, without any help, just from watching the video. Not to mention whatever else he says in class on any random day.

Loyalty to his state, supposedly. That might mean maintaining the status quo that enabled him to prosper. Otherwise, I don't know. As is typical for humans, it was likely complex or at least more than one reason. I haven't studied it, so I'm just guessing.

Not to mention having to watch videos like this that say, "We're celebrating people that wanted to keep your ancestors enslaved!" And deal with whatever micro (or not) aggressions such a teacher would do in the classroom every day.

They were also largely immigrants from elsewhere than England, which settled eastern Virginia and never to this day have managed to establish loyalty to the US.
