The "tried to overthrow the government" question we all mocked suddenly looks like a good idea now, doesn't it?

I will learn to shoot to stand by you!

Which is why part of me would really like to see religion dropped from non-discrimination statutes, once the person is an adult. Unlike race, gender, or orientation, religion isn't an inherent characteristic.

Shooting, as an activity, is very good for you. You do have to learn to shoot correctly. It's not like the movies or teevee. Like fencing, shooting takes all your focus. You can climb a stair machine and worry about your job, that big project, your marriage, etc., but you can't afford to do that while shooting.

There's some comforting ritual involved, with sending your target out, loading the gun, and getting yourself set in the proper stance. I shoot at competition targets rather than human silhouettes, because I have no desire to shoot at people, even vicariously. A wild boar silhouette, however...

About the only downside to shooting are the idiots one must interact with at the shooting range. And that's every shooting range.

Cancel culture really has me worried. Before, it was political correctness with the dire complaint that the left was trying to silence people. And what do you do when a group tries to silence you? You resist!

Now, they aren't trying to silence you. They're trying to cancel you. And what do you do when a group tries to cancel you? A fuck of a lot more than just resist. You cancel them before they cancel you.

Operative phrase: LEARN. I spent many hours with Dad and grandfather, learning and practicing and cleaning. But people of good heart and dedication to morality are always welcome at the range.

Oh, Gawd! What husband calls the gas grill crowd! Yup. Been there, seen that. But being a woman who can shoot a cross on a bullseye target at the pistol range kinda' shuts them up and they shuffle off. Plus husband shoots grouped shots at targets on the 300 meter berm, which really twists their tails.

A concordance, which is what you are talking about, gives the thing too much legitimacy. That being said, check with Anti-Defamation League.

I wouldn’t do it any other way. Guns are scary and loud.

It’s time to really upgrade security clearance and background checks for anyone serving in a police force, military, legislative, presidential, or any other governmental capacity. Yes, even Park Rangers. It’s fine for people to retain privacy rights to some extent, but there has to be elevated responsibility with elevated authority. So, there should be some exceptions here. They aren’t ordinary citizens while employed in these positions. We have some limited exceptions within the military already, so there shouldn’t be much debate about the need to amplify these qualifications and protocols.

Imagine how many undesirable people would be weeded out before ever being hired/elected just because they couldn’t be bothered to clean up their Nazi FB posts. Maybe they’d even decide they aren’t interested in the jobs because they’d be required to at least pretend not to be of the assumption that they can abuse their authority and express their bigotry at will. Maybe some would be too proud to hide their bigotry in front of their friends because they think it would make them look weak. Even just this small (looking like it’s actually not that small) group of people being blocked or dissuaded from these positions probably would save a bunch of lives. Make the jobs harder to get and we might get better quality.
