For starters, I don't see this concept as a gulag or prison-type scenario. I see these as theoretical communities meant to attract white, racist (either overt or micro-aggressive), christian, conservatives to relocate to right-wing utopias. Yes, they may in practice be more akin to trailer park camps or faith-based compounds. But to me, they are a formal continuation of what the SPLC has identified as racist utopian concepts such as Pioneer Little Europe (PLE) and the Northwest Territorial Imperative among others. These are frightening attempts to create white-supremacist communities. The fiasco at Leith, North Dakota would be an example of a PLE and Confederate Colony, SC or Elohim, OK might be examples of the Northwest Territorial Imperative (though obviously neither are in the Northwest. Which brings me to 2) the "folly". Cities don't thrive unless they a) form along necessary river, rail, or highway commercial routes or b) are attached to some massive natural resource or commercial outlay, such as mining, car companies, natural attractions, or entertainment. And the latter don't really ever "thrive" beyond the rise and fall of the commercial interests behind them (when the coal mines dry up, so do the towns. What example is the future of Las Vegas now that online gambling is taking off?). So who the ever-loving fuck is going to populate land in the middle of nowhere devoid of infrastructure just so their kids don't have to reckon with the history of slavery?
