There are powerful lobbyists in Washington and Israel has a butt ton of them. They must spend half the money we give them lobbying us to keep giving it to them. This guy is getting screwed, and I'm embarrassed how racist this is.

Sometimes I just really hate this country. Granted, it's just a subsection of it who sucks, but damn, they do a lot of damage.

Semi OT. NBC (the Manchin link) uses Admiral to block anyone using adblockers from accessing their website.

"Learn how Admiral's products and services can help you grow visitor relationships and revenue."

Admiral merely keeps me from any sort of relationship at all with NBC. Very service-y

Is Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nevada) our new Kyrsten Sinema?

Also, too, fuck Joe Manchin.

Expand full comment

Manchin is going all in for the red and trying to save his seat. Religion has gotten its death grip on this country and has oozed into everything. I wish agnostics and atheists had a fighting chance to win any office.

"Catherine Cortez Masto"

God damn it...I not only post carded for her, I am about to become one of her constituents. FUCK.

At least you can send her a nasty letter whenever she does something shitty.

this sucks but it's also a good reality check, I suppose. xenophobia of all stripes runs deep and unfortunately we're not exempt from that over here on the left.

Expand full comment

"unfortunately we're not exempt from that over here on the left."

well we ARE...It's a defining definition/ feature of being "on the left"...ANYONE can put a 'D' next to their name...It's meaningless. ( se manchin/ Sinema) Its what you STAND for that makes you a democrat. What's unfortunate is that we don't insist on a base standard for EVERYONE who deigns to run under the democratic banner

So we're stuck with the work of better vetting.

Expand full comment

what I'm saying is that it's happening over here on the left as well. it obviously shouldn't but people be peopling.

and we're stuck with recognizing the problem and trying to fix it.

in the senate, especially with wobbly seats like Masto's and Tester's, it's also extremely easy to run pressure campaigns and that's more of a structural than a personal issue. obviously that's also not to say that this absolves the senators in question.

Expand full comment

I hear ya...I'm just saying that xenophobia isn't a 'left' position and therefore shouldn't be a democratic position...Like how being anti-abortion is antithetical to the democratic left position EVEN THOUGH there are several anti-abortion 'democratic' legislators throughout the country...They shouldn't be ALLOWED to run as democrats...There are certain lines in the sand that we MUST insist on. that are inviolable...that there is no room for debate on.

Expand full comment

I don't think that xenophobia is their position per se but that they can be swayed by it. whether that's personal and/or constituents' bias isn't always that obvious but the result is the same.

one of the huge issues in the Senate, and the reason why Manchin got away with it for so long, and why Sinema even had a chance, is the slim margin and the resulting "we gotta take what we can"-attitude.

again, that doesn't absolve the party from its responsibility to vet but when your opponents are craven and cynical to the point of destroying the fabric of the country, it's easy to walk right into a craven and cynical candidate yourself.

and, even better, none of what I said negates anything you said but just adds to it.

we have a lot of work to do. boy oh boy, so much work...

Absolutely we're on the same page. This is just a conversation about definitions. Good stuff.

I'm embarrassed, though not entirely surprised, that Masto is among them.

Manchin I get because he definitely wants to screw Joe Biden personally as he speeds off into the sunset in his Maserati ala Knight Rider. Masto, I think should've stuck up for Mangi because *probably* people would've forgotten this vote by 2028. Else she is afraid of the rightwing human media centipede.

I'm honestly surprised Sinema didn't do a cutesy thumbs down for Mangi too.

Just when I think I couldn't possibly feel any greater contempt for Republicans in general, and Manchin in particular (yeah, I know what's next to his name), something like this comes along. I assume Ted celebrates the day that Russia first invaded Ukraine...with champagne and shotgun bacon.

Adolph Hitler could put a D next to his name and still not be a democrat..."democrat" should be seen as a verb. It's what you DO that makes you one, not what you SAY you are...The mere existence of Blue Dog Democrats is proof of that

lesson: better vetting
