I am so glad you included The Zinn Education Project- their work is so important! A blurb from the site ties perfectly into your message:
“A people’s history flips the script. When we look at history from the standpoint of the workers and not just the owners, the soldiers and not just the generals, the invaded and not just the invaders, we can begin to see society more fully, more accurately. The more clearly we see the past, the more clearly we’ll see the present — and be equipped to improve it.”
Border Kindness is a mutual aid group on the southern border of the US. They are among the groups offering food, water and shelter to those being detained at the border, where our government gives no food, water or shelter. I don't want to argue the point but literally these people are living in the open air, starving. These people come from all over the world. They also drop water on known travel routes through the desert.
Yes, unspeakable things are being done BY people TO other people all over the world. But, we're supposed to be better than that, we do like to think of America as a force for good in the world
(all you tankies and Jacobins can just STFU, you're not helping) and the elected leaders of too many states interrupt that pleasant dream with their brutal sadism. I am at a loss to think of ways to take these petty tyrants down. Especially because they seem able to find enough orcs among the electorate to keep them in power as long as they want it.
I’m currently donating to World Central Kitchen. While I know they mostly operate globally and maybe don’t fall into the category of “what can we do in our own backyard,” they just do enormous good for hungry people in terrible situations. And they do also operate in the US, when our own fucking government can’t pull its collective head out of its collective ass.
I hope we are doing all we can to educate young people that being born here into a loving family with resources and a home and food, clothing and heat is not to be taken for granted. Millions of people all over the world dream of a chance to live a life like that. Immigration deserves compassion, respect and understanding. Most immigrants are people just like us but who lacked the good fortune to be born here. Those who treat this country like a private club, a birthright organization hostile to anyone born elsewhere need to open their eyes.
I have two beautiful half Hispanic children, and those children look so much like some of their little cousins that I couldn't even hardly stand to look at it. Reading about it made me sob. How is this a thing allowed to happen in what's supposed to be a civilized world? My heart and my soul cry out for these victims and all like them. 😔❤️
I want to enthusiastically second the work of ZINN ED PROJECT and encourage literally everyone to read A People's History of the United States
If I were in charge of the Department of Ed in this country it would be mandatory reading at all levels after junior high
And for those who didn't already know -- the abhorrent negligence of the authorities in reference to deaths of the marginalized has pissed enough people off that the U.S. Attorney General himself and some of his key AAGs have gone to Texas to look around
(they DO NOT want the likes of Vanita Gupta down there and I am filled with joy that she is present)
Sara - Thank you for this. For the love, respect, and grief for the 3 souls lost to the appropriate ways to effect change and channel our rage.
Here are some of my favorite charities. The Lilith Fund provides access to gynecological and maternal healthcare for all people living in Texas, especially in underserved border towns. The Dilley Pro Bono Project provides migrant mothers and children with free immigration and Family Law assistance. Texas Rio Grande Legal Aid provides low income and migrant families with free legal services, including worker’s rights.
Sara, I love you. You are one of my favorite globalists. I will see about throwing some Ameros at the people you mention.

Enraged is the least of my feelings.

May the eyes of those two tiny children haunt Greg Abbott for the rest of his miserable life
Ta, Sara. Always look for the helpers. We are everywhere.
Boycott Texas.
'Dammit Texas you just won't give up on trying to get the "Worst State Ever" award from me now would you?"

Greg Abbott is a murderer.
Merrick Garland: Get to work. You did the right thing with Tim McVeigh.

Among my charities are water.org and period.org; both help people in need around the world
