Why doesn't the Chicago political leadership adopt the seminal tune from Snoop Doggy Dog: "Murder Was the Case That They Gave Me" ? Could learn something from the Long Beach Gangstas.

Except that one thing that we are trying to do is prevent folks from being charged with crimes they did not commit.

The narrative that gang members are driving to the next state over and then coming back and shooting people is a) false and b) does not promote justice for the people who are actually trafficking them.

It can be. 9/10, telling folks that people can see them and we have gotten complaints mortifies them.

It’s a tricky thing to enforce though. I salute them for doing it, but it must be exhausting.

I used to be but I became an engineer anyway.

And...

FUCK RAHM

Thank you.

It is a complicated issue. I support no filters but a clear code of conduct.

Nope. Nope. Nope. No reasonable big city mayor would do that. Increase the funding a bit, set up a pet incentive (adult literacy, digital literacy, early literacy, job seekers...whatever) show up at the library ONCE to promote it (with cameras) and you have goodwill from the community and you get to tell people you β€œINCREASED” the library budget (which actually isn’t a bold stance because library use is up everywhere, but no one seems to know this.) And the community gets better library services. Win win. Also the Chicago system kind of rules. Last time I checked they refused to take federal funding so they could have unfiltered computers. I wonder if they changed that stance now. It’s a little impractical. I don’t want to have to look at a dude watching porn and NOT be able to say β€œHEY! DON’T DO THAT!” I’m all for open access to information, but is that really information?

What TakingAmes says is so true. I very seldom go to the South Side. I don't what I'd do there. There are some really good things on the SS though. The Museum of Science and Industry is on the south side, but in Hyde Park where Pres O lives. President Obamas library will be on the south side. But I'm sure they'll "gentrify" the neighborhood before it's done. Sigh.

I voted for Chuy in the last election. Rahm pretended that he "got the message" but of course that was bs. My son goes to Welles Park for Special Recreation so whenever I have an opportunity to drive by his house, I too flip his house off. Despite the police that are always there.

We have that whole slavery and Black migration from the south during Jim Crow and housing segregation thing down here in the USA. History.

Yes, I wonder how that's going?

Interesting you should say that. The g/f is an inner city Baltimore girl, and her childhood stories are about neighbours looking after each other because they know no other help is ever coming. Her neighbourhood - not very far from the old B&O roundhouse - was ethnically diverse too, and she never ran into much in the way of racism until she was sent to an out-of-area high school. Maybe it's just about the place you grow up.

Could be, but the end result is the same.

So they take matters into their own hands, and then they get blamed for being violent.

Rahm Emmanuel strikes me as a total asshat.
