My mommy died when I was 33. She was a feminist. We read Ms magazine in the 1970s and talked about contraception and abortion at the dinner table. She wanted me to live by my wits. I did all that and I am happy and I love and miss her.
It was Shelley Winters. Read her memoir, "Shelly, Also Known as Shirley." She describes the mutual affection for "Catch Me, Fuck Me" shoes held by her and also her roommate, Marilyn Monroe.
I lost my mom when I was 24 to the plot of a B movie (it was the handyman.) She was bipolar and had her share of troubles and I didn't realize how much of my life was not normal as a kid (yay therapy) but on her good days she was anti-racist, and that's the value she imparted on me more than anything. She firmly believed that America ought to be a meritocracy. She didn't make it to see the election of Obama, but I think she would have been pleased.
Do not faint....We have lived in this house for 17 years (ok, we don’t use it that much) and have never cleaned the oven ourselves. I have the cleaner (which I’m afraid to use because that shit HAS to be toxic to clean an oven). The only thing I’m sure of is that it will have to be cleaned before we sell the house. It’s not the cleaning that worries me...its the stuff you have to use to clean the oven. Now my stove top is immaculate.
And I have the Former Occupant which they did as (what they thought would be) a gag. After all they were New Yorkers, they knew what a horror and fraud he was from the beginning. It has a detachable wig.
It would be easier for me to understand if my parents were assholes. They weren’t. My dad was a wonderful man. My mother and I always got along great. The worst argument we ever had was about modern art. But that’s only because I wouldn’t let things turn to politics very long.
It’s a mystery to me. It’s why I don’t automatically assume a T**** supporter is actually evil. Deluded, for sure, but not necessarily evil.
Our oven was installed in late 1977. It has never been cleaned, other than to put new foil in the bottom.Possibly due to being a used restaurant stove. Cast iron top gets washed now and then, foil in the drawers under the burners......very homely, very low maintenance.BUTHad to buy commercial or cast iron pots and pans, regular ones got incinerated 😯Commercial kitchens have to be easy to keep clean, but not using oven cleaners is a lot safer...think the fumes would not be good, even if vented off.
Not having a mum to raise me ( she died when i was 7) i have looked to older women for cues and advice. I have winged being a mum to our kids. I always sought out women like Editrix's mum as i instinctively knew those values were mine
I dont remember that show but i do have family who live in poverty in Lancaster. We do what we can but we never had the best relationship with them to start with. One of the sons rose above the shite and is a firefighter. He is loving his life with his lovely wife and 2 daughters. The other son is a waste of space. He has grand dreams but no push to implement them. I was so pleased when i found out he is finally working at the local homeless shelter and taking night classes to become a substance abuse counselor. The mother makes me spit with rage. She is the cat lady whose house smells as she doesnt often clean up. She works 2 jobs but never seems to have any money as she drinks to dull the pain. These people are my SIL and nephews

There are two Obamas. The first one (which I have but do not display) was pretty bad. The one you see is a BIG improvement.

Yep. Well, the thing is, I've decided there isn't a whole lot of actual evil in the world, but it's bursting with delusion.
Hey, thanks! I never knew the old lady from Pete's Dragon had been a pinup girl. I can definitely see that being a thing.
