They said the campaign didn't pay her, but maybe a dark-money group did

Thomas Phillips, the former Republican chief justice of the Supreme Court of Texas, says he's endorsing Democratic state Rep. James Talarico for U.S. Senate.

Talarico "knows firsthand how a legislative body can function in a bipartisan spirit," Phillips said in an opinion piece in Beaumont Enterprise. (You can read it here.)

Meanwhile, he said, Republican Senate nominee Ken Paxton has led a public career "marred almost since its inception by charges of impropriety." Paxton, currently the state's attorney general, was previously impeached by his own party and was indicted on three felony counts.

Former GOP Chief Justice Of Texas Supreme Court Endorses James Talarico

Phillips is one of several notable Texas Republicans publicly backing Talarico over Paxton. Others include former Texas GOP Party executive director Wayne Thorburn, former Texas Republican House Speaker Dade Phelan and Neil Bush, the brother of former President George W. Bush.

Christ she's ugly.

Kimberly Guilfoyle has lost her ambassador job, but her name still carries a six-figure price tag on the speaking circuit. The former Fox News personality is listed for appearances costing between $50,000 and $100,000 after she left as U.S. ambassador to Greece amid allegations of financial misconduct, which she denies. Whether anyone is paying those rates is another question. The listing offers a glimpse of her potential earning power, but it doesn't show that she's booked a single six-figure engagement.

She is definitely prostituting herself out. She will have massive legal bills to pay.

This woman that was living in her car with a bunch of cats in a church parking lot is a beacon of integrity obviously. Hand her a fist full of cash and she'd say anything, which she did.

The Democratic Party should, and likely will, win big in the midterms. We must not send the worst anti-trans voices to join them.

Only one I would take issue with is Turek, as it’s so much more important to hold senate seats than house. Cullear did a very funny thing once by manipulating Trump into a pardon, but he can fuck off forever.

I don’t think it’s even a true anti-trans mindset for most. I don’t think most anti-trans politicians have ever encountered a trans person in their lives. I think it’s a “willingness to listen to Democratic consultant brain”, and I can gauarantee whoever is advising it has a resume full of losing national campaigns.

I’m not going to tell anyone to hold their nose and vote for any of the four, but the question ultimately becomes “what party will do less damage when in charge and who can be convinced to do the right thing”.

Our_Man_In_Redneckistan's avatar

Earlier I heard a forecast of a 240-seat majority.

Can I haz 60 seat Senate, not including Fetterman, also too?

Our_Man_In_Redneckistan's avatar

Don’t look that way. The most optimistic number I’ve seen is 54(!!!).

Chemical's avatar

Yes, and if this year wasn't a blue tsunami, then R's would be guaranteed to keep a hold on the Senate. The only reason why Dems even have a shot at taking the Senate this midterms is because we're threatening states like Ohio, Texas, and Kansas, which is absolutely fucking ridiculous.

Aquaman, Real Estate Investor.'s avatar

I wonder if 54 would be enough that Fetterman could be talked into retirement?

With a 4 seat majority he'd have to really work at it to have power or influence. And whoever is Majority Leader next will probably strip him of his committee seats anyway.

He's already not having any fun. Make way for some angry ex prosecutor who wants to collect Republican scalps.

The Anthropic IPO slowly inches closer.

TLDR, they think a business where you spend over $300B on leasing data centers to generate less than $30B in revenue is worth $2 Trillion.

They just need to either grow their market by 10x with zero overhead increases, to maybe be break-even.

Or bring the data center rental costs down by 90%.

Heck, the $130 billion they have in free cash isn't even enough to cover their data center bill for the next 6 months.

Its a fucking ponzi scheme.

Yeah but they are promising that you can have something that is approximately art, without having to pay a smelly artist. You can pay an AI techbro instead.

And isn't that worth $300 billion? No, it isn't. But at least the money isn't going to artists.

Aquaman, Real Estate Investor.'s avatar

The problem seems to be that people don't have a problem paying the smelly artist. They have a problem with paying anyone at all.

This has been my problem with their entire proposition from the beginning.

I don't think the market will ever value AI output enough to pay the actual costs.

For specialized applications, sure. But for the vast majority, it's worth pennies to them and costs dollars to provide.

Chemical's avatar

>>I don't think the market will ever value AI output enough to pay the actual costs.

I agree. That's the whole fundamental problem with their business model.

Anyone who looks into the details of the whole sordid Acton mama drama would have to conclude that the mother is both mentally ill and malevolent. Her deceased husband was brought up on incest charges WITH HIS OWN DAUGHTER just a year before becoming Amy's stepfather. And that Satanic hag still married him.

There are other things too. But that alone... words fail.

I had 2 aunts who basically did the same thing.

One at least honestly didn't know for awhile (I think, but am not sure), but then went back to him after the therapy, etc. *sigh*

Maybe Mom will see the error of her ways, use the time after the election as an opportunity to take responsibility for past wrongs, and ultimately even attend her daughter's inauguration. Then again maybe she only did it for the money, and doesn't care about any of this at all. Yeh, I bet that's it.

OMG the post office is a complete shambles right now.

I packed a priority mail flat rate envelope with Jr's ballot to sent to him in Baltimore. Then I bought the shipping label online. Then I brought it to the post office.

"This isn't the right postage"

"It's discounted if you buy online instead of at the store"

"Doesn't look right"

"Let me log in to my USPS account. Oh, I can't log in now, it's stuck"

Ten minutes later, still can't log in, but I found the priority mail flat rate envelope rates and showed them to the guy at the counter

"I paid the correct rate, see here the rate for online postage?"

"Oh, you're probably right."

FUCKING HELL. Hopefully, Jr will actually get his envelope this week.

This is what happens when you have a postmaster general who literally wants to murder the post office.

SterWonk's avatar

Last summer, I needed more postcard stamps for Postcards to Swing States, so I decided to go get some about a week before the postcard rate increased.

Me: "200 postcard forever stamps, please."

Clueless Guy: "Okay. But the postcard rate is about to go up, so you'll need to add postage if you use just these stamps."

M: <blink> "No. They're postcard forever stamps. They're good for postcards, forever."

CG: "I don't think that's right"

M: "I *do* *know* that's right." <turns to the person at the next window> "Excuse me; the postcard stamps I'm buying today are still sufficient after the rate increase next week right?"

Clueful Woman: "Right, that's why they're called 'forever'."

M: "Thank you. Please remind your colleague."

motmelere's avatar

DO NOT trust Trump's USPS to handle your vote!

ciaobella's avatar

Mrs C and I dropped off our ballots in a local ballot dropbox here in WA, but Jr is in Baltimore, so he needs to mail his ballot.

ciaobella's avatar

BTW I still can't log in to my USPS account and see my transaction history.

USPS.COM having technical problems, I guess! Bummer that it's just a week before election day, I'm sure it has nothing to do with that.
