This is because a) Americans are fucking lunatics; and b) the libertarian ideology is the place where left and right meet. Unlike 1960s extreme rightwing breakoff parties like George Wallace&#039;s venture in the or <strike>actual</strike> extreme leftwing parties like Gene McCarthy&#039;s and Frank Church&#039;s efforts, a libertarian party has a real chance to draw more than 10% of the electorate.
Now that Rand Paul has become the spokesman for this trend, I&#039;m relaxing. It&#039;s just another <strike>Wallace</strike> <strike>Nixon</strike> whatever effort to coopt the GOP. Good luck to &#039;em, I say.
