Sen. Rand Paul had a hell of a Tuesday kicking off his already failrific presidential campaign. So many gems. So many instant classics. So many LOLZ. And, as digby says, he gets Quote 'o the Day for this: I believe in applying Reagan’s approach to foreign policy to the Iran issue.
"Ally" is always context sensitive, e.g. : "a person, group, or nation that is associated with another or others for some common cause or purpose".It doesn't automatically imply permanence or universal agreement.
Of course. I was just pointing out that a lot of people conflate "someone who's on the same side as us on this particular issue" with "someone who's on the same side as us in general".
About good ol' Tom "The ex-con" Delay... maybe you could explain something to me, that I've been wondering about for a long time: as head of the GOP, he was convicted of funnelling money through the GOP national committee back to the Texas GOP. But, since it went through the RNC... doesn't that make them a corrupt organization, and shouldn't they have been RICO'd?
Tommy, help me out here. You said "What they’re trying to do is to undermine religious liberty so that they become an accepted sexual orientation." What is it about accepting that liberty and justice for ALL includes gays that undermines your religious liberty? 'Cause I don't see how 2 men getting married has anything to do with your ability to believe in an angry sky-man.
We're living in a joke that has long since become stale.
Saint Ronnie never made a move until Nancy cleared it with her astrologer.
I am relatively certain that Rand, like Raygun, is in to VooDoo.
Ken Ham?
I'm sure he'd have no problem serving a black customer either, provided that he didn't know about their race.
Oh, they were listening. These fuckers see 1984 as an instruction manual.
Jewish for Rand?
No. I didn't.
Too late.

You may be right. However, Iran for many years was an ally and a friend in the region.
I've been back to Vietnam including parts we bombed almost to oblivion and they seem to genuinely like Americans despite all that went on before.

Even now, there are plenty of every-day Iranians who don't hold a grudge against every-day Americans for US actions in Iran decades ago.
My point was that, while facing a mutual enemy can lead to a more general alliance, it is not always so. The end of Darmok was a best-case scenario.

I suspect by the end of his presidency he was mostly in diapers
