Thanks for calling out Jonathan Last’s “Cletus Voice”. I haven’t read the article (or the Bulwark), but I do find those characterizations (sloppy Southern dialect, rednecks with missing teeth, obese people in scooters and MAGA hats) to be annoying, crude, and unhelpful.
The problem people are those at the top (as any Wonker knows). The billionaires, the business owners who don’t pay living wages, the folks who think that because nothing bad has happened to them (yet), Trump and MAGA can do whatever they want.
