(bows) Promptoberfest begins in two days, and I'm doing something new. Each day will be a separate prompt. as since 2023, but this time they're all part of the same story.
I'm already getting a lot of ideas from the Room of Infinite Monkeys.
Ah, at last. I have been waiting and waiting for a capybara! Rather than a herd, the group should be called a 'zen of capybaras', and they should be made an official Emotional Support Animal and I would buy one and take it on the bus with me and all the buses will have to be redesigned to accommodate all of them. 💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛
VoteVets and Home of the Brave have collaborated on a site documenting Assmouth's failed Iran war timelines -- share it with those decent people with whom we so cordially disagree:
***The groups also launched a new website, AboutTwoWeeks.com, hosting an interactive calendar showcasing more than 60 video clips of Trump promising to end the war soon, while also reminding Americans of the far-reaching impacts of the conflict: at least 19 U.S. servicemembers killed, more than 800 injured and more than $100 billion in additional gas and diesel costs to Americans since March.***
We were driving in Fort Pierce on day when I had a migraine and I said to my dad, "Pull over." He did immediately and I threw up ALL OVER the sidewalk. Had to go buy new shoes.
"Everything totally fucking sucks right now, so let’s just put our Hero of the Day right up top. It’s the guy who ruined Dear Leader’s day by screaming ‘YOU’RE A FUCKING PEDOPHILE’ at him."
While we're on Aileen Cannon, I didn't realize that she probably needed to recuse herself from all these Trump cases. Truly the best people:
Josh Lorence, the husband of Judge Aileen Cannon, worked for John Rosatti between 2011 and 2014.
Connection: Lorence was employed by John Rosatti, a Florida-based business owner who has been described as a longtime friend and associate of Donald Trump.
Context: These reports have been highlighted by critics to suggest a potential, albeit indirect, conflict of interest, arguing that the husband of the judge presiding over a case involving Trump was employed by a known associate of the former president.
About John Rosatti: Rosatti is often characterized in these reports as having past connections to the Colombo crime family and as being a significant donor and supporter of Trump.
I'm working an internal corporate event for a major US airline. 500 flight attendants, customer service agents, etc. About 40 of their top executives.
Not one damn Furry.
I've asked my client contacts about furries. They don't seem to think it's all that funny. They did mention that they hear there are a lot of 'em in the business, but they don't know much about it. I mentioned that on my flight to the event, I didn't see a single furry, and felt cheated. But also I hadn't asked, so maybe that was it?
They said that asking about furries might be a good way to get on the No-Fly List, so maybe I shouldn't do that.
So I won't.
I'm starting to think maybe Senator Tuberville was mistaken.
So, my stove blew last night and I’m pretty sure I’m going to need a new one. Are those induction cook tops a good choice? I have electric and I have a cat.
We went electric last fall. I'm still getting used to it. I've cooked on gas for 50 years, including in restaurants, and it's very different.
We have some stainless steel pans we like, so we did not go induction. My understanding is that all pans have to be magnetic, pretty much, to work with induction. My cast iron would work, but not the other pans.
I may be wrong about that; don't take my word for it. It was also an excuse to go a bit cheaper.
I'm happy with my new LG appliances, including the oven/range. It bakes beautifully. The convection is nice, and the heating appears to be very even, from the way baked goods come out. But didn't spring for the induction, and don't miss what I've never had.
I wound up starting the day reading 2 pieces that just pissed me off. One was the Megan McArdle piece, and there's THIS winner. A longread that just proves to be another leopard-eats-face saga.
I like the Gothamist well enough, but I do not like the way they cover Mamdani. Just now, I read: "Plan to modernize NYC's diesel-spewing produce market falls apart under Mamdani"- like he stomped it to pieces himself. Other times, it's like: "Mamdani's plan to do [good thing X] is definitely going to cause [HORRIBLE, TERRIBLE CONSEQUENCE]". I'm not saying glaze the guy 24/7, but come on.
"... our original theory, namely that he was just babbling and trying to look cool in front of the big dictator man and has no goddamned idea what’s coming out of his mouth at any given time..."
So, what you're saying is that Drowsy Don, isn't in full control of his faculties as he meets with world leaders and makes day to day decisions with his cabinet?
Maybe the White House Press corps should look into this.
Your hed gif info and more on everybody's favorite ROUS, the capybara: https://martiniambassador.substack.com/p/capybaras-and-prairie-dogs

I thought that was a bunch of capybara tasting prairie dogs to see if they are nommy....
Takes a ticking like a Timex watch.
ROUS? I don’t believe they exist.
If the headline is about voting, they should be baby stoats.
BABBY CAPABARAS!!!! Feel the love!
Prairie dog or babby capabara? How to tell?
Like groundhog cousins.
Like groundhog cousins.
Yay Capybabbies!
Giant Guinea Pigs!
Rodents tongue-bathing rodents!
Sounds like one of the stories you'd write.

I'm already getting a lot of ideas from the Room of Infinite Monkeys.
I initially read that as "infirm monkeys", which sounded interesting too. So that's still fair game, yes?
Some of the ideas I get *are* pretty sick.
And that's what we like about you.
Ah, at last. I have been waiting and waiting for a capybara! Prairie dog pop-ups for capybaras caresses.
Awwwww, I thought those were prairie dogs! How cute, they’re getting a bath.
Who among us has never expressed availability by whistling through one’s nose?
Probably how the prairie dog that married Ana and I was ordained. Good to know his credentials were legit.
You know how to whistle, don'tcha Steve?

Just put your lips together...
Bath time!
Carpincho is a fun name for them.

"Megan McArdle. Now that's a name I haven't heard in a long time. A long time..."
Was it in the obituaries?
re: Aileen Cannon
We were driving in Fort Pierce on day when I had a migraine and I said to my dad, "Pull over." He did immediately and I threw up ALL OVER the sidewalk. Had to go buy new shoes.
That is my association with Aileen Cannon.
How do I know it's migraine? 'Cuz it ain't YOUR graine!
Sorry, random almost-joke. I feel for you ladies what get the migraines (I know some guys get them too, but the numbers ain't exactly similar).
The digital billboard assaulting my senses on my commute in the dark every morning had the same ad up that has been running for a couple of weeks.
"Like Freedom? Make a plan to vote!"
The ad that follows it is for a Halloween theme place, Spooky World.
Indeed.
Given the fucked-in-the-headedness of Trump voters, a lot of them might think that billboard is meant to encourage *their* side.
That said, I agree it's a good ad. Pithy, urgent, might motivate a non-voter.
Time to make an appointment with the National Barber...

The campaign ads write themselves.
If Dems are on their toes, the GOP is writing their attack ads for them.
I saw this on TV yesterday and just shook my head. They act like they'll be in power forever.
Let's fix that.
Remember this image when you vote in November....
Barman! Haircut, extra flat top!
*Mme. Guillotine has entered the chat*
And berlermakers!
Whoa. Tiedrich using capital letters to start sentences. I will actually read this.
The first thing I noticed, too.
"Everything totally fucking sucks right now, so let’s just put our Hero of the Day right up top. It’s the guy who ruined Dear Leader’s day by screaming ‘YOU’RE A FUCKING PEDOPHILE’ at him."

It all makes much more sense if you realize that we're dealing with an organized crime syndicate.

I’m pretty sure he is. A few months ago, Got in a hotel at 0130 the usual drill.
People get in elevator with me, at that hour. I’m doing the 10,000 mile stare, when I notice the very usual costumes.
I say, ok what’s up.
They say furry convention in hotel.
Not one cell in me wished to join them.
You have to have the special airline union card to gain entry to the special furry lounge at major airports.
The coat-check and changing rooms must be a feast for the senses.
Like all things Trump, the Grand Conspiracy turned out to be the Twenty Bucks Conspiracy instead.
Same as downtown.
Like the Trump $1 Gold Coin that isn't gold and costs more than $1?
So, my stove blew last night and I’m pretty sure I’m going to need a new one. Are those induction cook tops a good choice? I have electric and I have a cat.
My wife's parents have one. I find it to be a pain in the ass. If you use it all the time you might figure it out.
"Never had one", he said helpfully. But they seem kinda neat (I'm assuming you don't have any favorite copper or aluminum pans).
We went electric last fall. I'm still getting used to it. I've cooked on gas for 50 years, including in restaurants, and it's very different.

I went over to WaPo the other day, to cancel.

Some women are determined to learn the hard way that right-wing men hate all women, not just feminists.
You mean they are SERIOUS about wanting to take away the right to vote?
You hate to see it? I see the MSM is still writing about MAGA and not much else:
Weird how deciding to market your body to an audience of Nazi incels didn’t work out like you hoped!
WHO COULD HAVE FORSEEN??
Stuuuuuuuppppiiiiiid...

Exactly.
That's WaPo...always on the cutting edge.

Trump fell asleep in the oval office again and the media ignored it.
Text me when he doesn't wake up.
Another day, another nap…BIDEN IS OLD!!!!
I think the Megan McArdle column gave me a concussion. I definitely feel dumber.
