If we waited for majority support in every civil rights struggle we'd still be trying to rid ourselves of slavery.

Fear, they scare them with negative views of things that will happen if the patriarchy is overturned and crushed (as it should be.).

I want to see them asked that, too!

No, Southern Maine elects Angus King, who is a very nice guy and Independent. Northern Maine and the religiousers, elect Susan Collins.

The outsider thing carries a stigma in Maine, like you wouldn't believe. The Northern Mainers (and the lesser educated) would never vote for anyone born out of state unless they were a raving religious nut who out did t****.

That is the crux of the problem, once we struggle and get things passed, they are popular. But, as you say, they vote republican and that is why we can't have nice things.

There are a ridiculous number of ignorant people on this planet.

I live in a golf course community, and the people that play (in here) are condescending snobs.

They don't read them anyway, their aides do that and translate what is in them to them.

Well, like you said "(in here)" doesn't make us all snobs.

Well, I fully intend to drop this little factoid on Mrs Buttle the next time we make it. Thanks!

The Democratic FacePuncher 9000 was designed to make sure good legislation got passed, and the fact that no legislation at all gets passed is in no way a reflection on its effectiveness, just as its name should in no way be taken as an indication of its function.

More fundamental than that, is that politicians are now uncoupled from policy. If you're not selecting who to vote for based on what they're doing (or blocking) and how (in)effective they are at it, then how are you deciding who to vote for, and how do you judge their effectiveness? The answer is usually tribalism, and that gets very, very bad, very, very fast.
