I had a high draft number, but I was actually against the war and wasn't planning to attend if invited. Just couldn't see the need to sacrifice my life in a rice paddy to help some tin-horn dictator who cut a deal with some policy wonks.

Not appalling enough to make any Republican congresscritters throw up their hands and say, "That's it. I can't do this anymore."

Probably we'll be more likely to see this missing tax returns. Those odds are also pretty damn close to zero.

Back when GW Bush was running, a newspaper checked the records for everyone in Congress. More Democrats served in the military than Republicans. Probably because the Republicans all had student deferments while the working-class Democrats got their college educations thanks to the GI Bill after they got back.

He didn't say that. He didn't say that. Please tell me that even Donald Trump couldn't say that. "I feel like a great and very brave soldier." I was eighteen, not too aware, and I volunteered, and served six years in the Australian army, including a tour in Vietnam, and I don't feel like a "great and very brave soldier". Nor should I. My army career was undistinguished, mediocre, but so help me, I cannot imagine even blokes who WERE great and very brave soldiers, like Warrant Officer Keith Payne, or "Dasher" Wheatley who won a V.C. (and before that had grabbed a terrified young girl who bolted into a crossfire by accident and run to safety with her while shielding her with his own body) saying something like that. Or Audie Murphy or pick the hero of your choice, saying something like that.Donald Trump got a deferment, or two, and then a medical exemption for bone spurs in his heels, and wasn't even there. Charlie Brown "AAAAAUUGGGHH!"
