Actually, the way every government agency charged with oversight operates that I’ve worked in or with does pursue the easier prey. That usually means large tax cheats or fraudsters get away with it, and anti-fraud measures are weaponized against middle and lower class families.
It would be nice to think the IRS would use new resources to go after bigger fish, but that’s never how it works unless some governing body mandates it that way specifically—and that is another fantasy that never happens in reality.

My city has apparently hired some new folks in their tax office, because they have been corresponding with us about missing documents from our 2019 tax return. But I am so organized with that stuff I was able to get them what they needed over the weekend. So there!
Apparently I am a sadist. I had to abandon C-SPAN to pick up the grandchildren from school and I hated missing the re-immolation of McCarthy. Even at its worst, the Inquisition burned its victims only once.
Maybe we Blues should pay more attention to GOP antics like this--which actually threaten to tip the country further toward oligarchy--and less tallying up George Santos' innumerable lies. The latter will come out in due time, just like Trump's taxes did, while the ultra-wealthy pursue their quest to rig the system evermore in their favor.
