When GW Bush was asked how people could help the country as the Iraq war started to spin into chaos, he thought a moment, then said, "Go shopping".

Here's what really puts the absolute lie to republicans advocating for a willingness to sacrifice for the "benefit" of the war with Iran: they are draining, and potentially permanently damaging or even destroying the strategic petroleum reserve (SPR) in a shameless, if clearly futile attempt to blunt the sacrifice their ill-conceived war demands. Even the execrable George W Bush refused to tap the SPR to address oil price shocks as a result of his stupid wars of choice. I sometimes wish I wasn't an atheist so that I could believe these people would rot in hell.

Trump said paying a "teeny tiny bit more for gas" was worth it to support his stupid war, both these people are full of shit.

People during WWII complained about the rations as well. They only complied under duress, because the government ordered factories to make other things and enforced the rations to the point of people snitching on each other.

OT:

Day 5 of COVID. Slept in until 11am (not a common occurrence). Just wolfed down a brunch of Chunky Soup (Sirloin Burger and Country Veggies) before my first dose of Mucinex for the day.

EyeQueue's avatar

That's my favorite Chunky Soup!!!!!!

I hope you feel better!

Ta, Robyn. Personally, I am willing to sacrifice That Thing in the Offal Office, the entire Cabinet of Combover Caligula, and all the lickspittles and minions. The pied-à-nuage is in a county famous for dairy, so famous that the first milk pasteurization in the country happened there. We are a vegan household, so no dairy, meat, eggs, or seafood other than sea vegetables (seaweed). That said, I'd much rather have a quieter milk than a Loudermilk.

Wait! Is it a war? Or excursion? Or skirmish? Or kerfuffle? The family of those killed who are not getting the proper death benefits really want to know. Let's get the talking points straight, boys, because you are not helping to keep the money away from loved ones by calling it a war when the military says it isn't.

I think for way too many it’s a cool reality show. Nothing more.

EyeQueue's avatar

He said that "I will be back tomorrow night to close out the show."

It is a fucking show to him and many of them.

EyeQueue's avatar

And not a journalist questioning any of this to his fugly fucking face.

“I mean, right now, you're seeing the result of reducing government regulation and letting people keep more money in their pocket.”

I'll grant that the owner class (top 10%?) get more money in their pockets due to reduced regulations. The rest of us get explosive diarrhea, expensive beef, high rent, high gas/diesel prices, stupid tariffs, no medical insurance. In other words, screwed, with a 40 trillion dollar debt that our great grandchildren will be paying, if they survive long enough to get a job in the AI treadmills.

Be lucky they aren't yet rounding us up to make bio-fuel out of.

They're trying to find "compassionate" solutions and avoid a messy "genocide" dontcha know.

Right out of Curtis Yarvin's mouth and quoted in Nerd Reich, which I am currently reading.

Gasoline price numbers, for comparison with Biden and what he dealt with because of Russia in 2022. I chose the 7 month period starting with Russia's invasion, to compare with the 7 months of this mess, average regular gasoline price.

Source: https://data.burlingtonfreepress.com/gas-price/

Feb. 2022--3.53<>Sep. 2022--3.74, peaking in June at 5.00

Feb. 2026--2.93<>Sep. 2026--4.15

We can do year over year as well.

Sep. 2022--3.74<>Sep. 2023--3.80

Sep. 2025--3.19<>Sep. 2026--4.15

Biden took a lot more heat than Trump, even when he mitigated the circumstances by threatening oil companies in June 2022 and using the Strategic Reserve to our advantage. Trump has nearly exhausted the reserve and told Americans "Fuck you, too bad."

Have the day you voted for, fuckfaces, even at our expense.

People, myself included, hated it when Kamala kept telling us their economic concerns were of no concern. Now the rethugs are doing the same thing, but for a truly BAD economy. With Harris the masses were pissed at what they perceived as gaslighting. I was pissed because she didn't read the room and realize that.

What’s the point of thinking up incisive comments if Robyn is going to anticipate me? “Yeah, people were willing to sacrifice during WWII because we were fighting Nazis…” Republicans were opposed to entering that war, by the way, until the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor.

EyeQueue's avatar

People seem to forget that. There were KKK rallies at that time and LOTS of Nazi supporters.

The German American bund, etc.

Rachel has 2 whole podcasts on this.

Probably maps to the same proportion of recalcitrant, hateful, stupid, dim shitasses that we have now, and probably maps to the same proportion of recalcitrant, hateful, stupid, dim shitasses that we had back during the Civil War.

Seems like there's nothing we can do about this perpetual proportion of recalcitrant, hateful, stupid, dim shitasses to have them honor the social contract and not wild out every 40 or so years.

Either Reconstruction or give them their own disgusting state to get their disgusting hate on there without bothering the rest of us.

I'm sure Donnie will issue a troof congratulating them on their wisdom, and he'll lavish praise on the justices tonight at the Loserpalooza..

Or maybe not?

EyeQueue's avatar

Or they know the election's in the bag and nothing matters.

That's how Trump is talking and how the others are talking. Like this will be the last election Democrats have a chance getting elected.

EyeQueue's avatar

The rhetoric is different now. It's not the norm. Even from MAGA.

"They're going to try *one more time* but we wont' let them."

That's not just the "normal" campaign shit.

People need to wake up.

Also: Fuck You, Republican traitors!

"Actions speak louder than words", and yet words matter. I have noticed a troubling pattern in the news media. They talk about the "war with Iran" or the "Iran war", instead of the more accurate "war ON Iran".

Permanently Confused@68's avatar

This week on both NPR and HuffPost there were headlines like, such as: "Canada's trade war with the U.S...".

F*cking-A!

The War on Reason.

EyeQueue's avatar

At least one journalist needs to call him out for his "Iran would have had a nuclear weapon and USED IT within DWO WEEKS!!!!!! I stopped that."

Bullshit. Oldest trick in the fucking book: create a sense of urgency that only you can solve.

Fuck that shit.

This country is full to the brim with stupid and we deserve what we get.

I will NEVER FORGIVE THESE FUCKING PEOPLE!

My sweet, kind mother got up this morning in the worst mood I've seen her in ever and said that she hopes some cataclysm kills us all because "there is no bottom to humans" and "what have we ever done for this world other than leave it a worse off place?"

NO FORGIVENESS FOR ANY OF THESE FUCKING CHUDS AND I HOPE WE GET TO FIGHT THEM!

ArgieBargie's avatar

Somewhat OT, but why is it that I feel the same dipshits who thought Trump was going to lower grocery and gas prices are also going to fall for that illegal $5K midterms bribe that will never materialize?

Caepan's avatar

MAGA = chumps.

It's what Republicans have depended upon for the last 45 years.

EyeQueue's avatar

Sorry. It's not just MAGA. The average AMERICAN, fullstop, IS DROOLINGLY FUCKING STUPID!

EyeQueue's avatar

These fucking people think some of us liberals are still living off of stimmy checks from the pandemic.

They'll think, "Woo hoo!!!! Five thousand whole dollars? I'LL NEVER HAVE TO WORK A DAY IN MY LIFE AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

We're done. This country is done, and humanity is almost done.

And all I can say at this point is: GOOD! WE DESERVE IT!

YaJagoff's avatar

They deserve it, not the ones trying desperately trying to make life better for all.

EyeQueue's avatar

But we have all sat here since the 80s watching it and doing pretty much nothing. Letting them get away with breaking norms and laws and not engaging in the same fucking behavior. Now we are crippled effectively.

We basically did nothing. Or not enough. And not strongly enough, for sure.

They don't deserve civility or collegiality and that is one of the BIGGEST mistakes we made and continue to make.

And people KEEP MAKING EXCUSES TO BE FRIENDLY WITH THEIR MAGAt "FRIENDS" AND RELATIVES.

Fuck that shit. They are one step away from being enemy combatants in my eyes.

They have torn this country apart almost beyond repair. They have to suffer for that.
