Mitch isn't running for Senate, I don't think. I worked for him for a while (at Purdue) and think his retirement is for real.
That said, he's about as good as we are going to get in Indiana. He doesn't actively hate education, for one.
The rumor on campus and around the state was that his wife didn't want to live in DC/travel much, which is what kept him out of the 2016 race.
