Turns out his extra special being sweet on us is natural.

ah shit. this is exactly my experience. they get really clingy and their voices change about a year before something icky.
i say 'ah shit' b/c my 13 year old has been exhibiting exactly this behavior in the past 6 months and i didn't want to recognize or confirm it.
