The Pit of Despair. Where ROUSes, rodents of unusual size hang out. No, wait. That's the Fire Swamp. Now we have the ROUSes in the White(-ist) House, and created America as the Pit of Despair. So confusing!

I'm so confused – isn't that first CBS screenshot from about a year ago when Robin Wright and Tom Hanks were promoting the Robert Zemeckis film "Here"?

Probably changing video teasers just when the screenshot was taken? I mean, there's a pile of...something in the bottom screenshot, too. But every single title is ol' Bari and her chit-chat with the Duchess of Grift.

"On CNN, after rattling off false equivalences about mass shootings in America versus Australia"

> ""So Patel claimed there was a person of interest in America’s 465th mass shooting this year"

The number seems to be a low-ball or it needs updating. According to the Gun Violence Archive the number, as of yesterday, was 392 since the Shocking Orange ShitForBrains' first full day of his current regime. (https://www.gunviolencearchive.org/) There are nine pages of gun violence incidents since 21 Jan.

This is our tough on crime POTUS; mass roundups of brown skinned people for being the worst of the worst criminals -- even those with no criminal record here or their home country -- but won't even entertain the idea of curtailing gun violence because... 2A." "Of course, the GOP could have just extended the ACA subsidies, like Dems were asking during the shutdown"

Yeah but that would have meant the Dems won and RINOs will ***never*** allow that to happen. There isn't a RINO who wouldn't shoot their own mother and their children if is was an opportunity to own the libs.

His suggestion is basically "Let's completely redo how medical insurance works in the US in the next four days" Also, "why can't it cost a fraction of what it currently costs?"

They are not the least bit interested in healthcare insurance or the basic personal and familial security that it brings with it. They want to return to the "broken market" that prevailed before the ACA was passed, or even to something more primitive than that. Honestly, I think most Republicans (or at least the office-holding kind) would be perfectly happy with the "plan" being "No money? No health care."

I would not want Bill Cassidy as my doc with all his mealy-mouthin'.

Let's assume having a baby costs $30,000. Your insurance has a $5,000 deductible and a $10,000 OOP maximum, and pays 80% post-deductible (and assumed 100% post-OOP). Post-deductible is $25,000. 80% of that is $20,000, so the remaining $5,000 is your OOP responsibility. You have personally covered 30% of this baby-having, = $10,000. And say premiums are $200 / month, $2,400 annual. His ?maybe if you're lucky? $5,000 still leaves you with $7,400 OOP. The silver lining is now that you're in the 100% coverage zone, you can afford to pop out another baby as a BOGO if you can fit it in the same plan year, get busy!

"Rob Reiner, a tortured and struggling, but once very talented movie director and comedy star, has passed away, together with his wife, Michele, reportedly due to the anger he caused others through his massive, unyielding, and incurable affliction with a mind crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME, sometimes referred to as TDS," Trump's post read. "He was known to have driven people CRAZY by his raging obsession of President Donald J. Trump, with his obvious paranoia reaching new heights as the Trump Administration surpassed all goals and expectations of greatness, and with the Golden Age of America upon us, perhaps like never before."

OT from a story about the OU student who got a zero for writing a dumb essay that a bunch of people have been fired over:

The assignment called for students to write a clear and thoughtful 650 word response to a scholarly article about gender expectations in society. According to screenshots shared by Turning Point USA’s local chapter, Fulnecky wrote in her essay that the article irritated her, and described how God created men and women differently. “Society pushing the lie that there are multiple genders and everyone should be whatever they want to be is demonic and severely harms American youth,” she wrote.

Mel Curth, a graduate teaching assistant, wrote as part of the grading process that she had deducted points because Fulnecky submitted a “paper that does not answer the questions for this assignment, contradicts itself, heavily uses personal ideology over empirical evidence in a scientific class, and is at times offensive,” according to the screenshots of her messages.

From my crone level teaching experience, I would have given this student a 73, not 0. It meets basic objectives of organization, and most importantly, students aren’t going to go to the dean for a low C and you won’t lose your job for the world to laugh at on social media, while the message to the student is sent loud and clear.

The assignment was to answer specific questions relating to an article that the student apparently refused to read. If she had at least done that, I would have given her a passing grade even if she had still Jesused all over her paper.

But if you don’t do the assignment, you don’t get a passing grade.

If that was a clearly stipulated objective (using source material, citing source material) then I agree somewhat, but after two decades of teaching, I learned the trick for avoiding the dean is to grade inflate the crazy papers, like bubble wrap.

FFS you're in COLLEGE! By now, when you're given an article to read and respond to, it's expected that you read and respond to it.

What do you think that means, throw a tea party?

You’d be surprised how many don’t know how to write a basic essay in college (30-40%), and don’t have support at home to help, nor the wherewithal to get help until college (free tutoring…usually…but you can’t make the horse drink). Open admissions at comm colleges. Remedial classes have been offered for decades in college for reading and math.

I would have given her a chance to redo the paper within the requirements of the assignment and put that in writing. One thing I learned is document everything.

Exactly. A chat about using the source material, like it or not. I’ve learned to always cut them a break gradewise (all they care about is external validation) so they can hear the truth of the criticism, and always accepted do-overs and rewrites until the last minute. I was loved.
