There's the grifters, but that doesn't account for all of them (10% going GOP is more than just grifters). For a lot of people, other issues besides race will prevail. If you REALLY love tax cuts, or hate gay people, or hate immigrants, you'll be willing to pretend your allies aren't bigots.

I'm no economist, but wouldn't high gas prices help suppress general inflation? If people have to spend more on gas that leaves less for other purchases, and the high prices might make them curb their spending.

The Republicans should have worked harder on their two strongest cases against Justice Jackson, as this would surely have brought more black people into the GOP.

1) If she really cared about the United States and its Constitution, why hasn't her husband tried to organize a coup against our country?

2) Donald Trump saw Justice Jackson dancing on top of a building in Newark on 9/11.

How do Weisman and King support their thesis that "Judge Jackson’s rough treatment” is unlikely turn out Black voters for Democrats in large numbers? They offer us some compelling quotes from ... Black Republicans.

How to write for the The New York Times:1) Ask a stupid question,2) Ask people who hold the exact opposite opinion from your question for their answer,3) Profit!

Wesley Hunt, a Black Republican running for a solid-red Texas House seat, said, “I think the Black people that [the Jackson hearings] would turn off weren’t voting for Republicans anyway, no matter what.”

I don't see that as "incredibly cynical," I see it as completely reasonable. We will not get 100% of any group, and we don't need to. We just need to get a larger share of the group.

I think the 38th is in or near Houston. I hope Hunt has no chance at victory.

A sane electorate would look at Rev Warnock vs Herschel and laugh Herschel out of the race. Says a lot about current USian politics.

Re: Republicans were intent on “stealing our joy.” - couldn't help noticing the negativity on Facebook re: KBJ's confirmation, but I realized that they hate us so much that they just can't stand the fact that our side had something to be genuinely happy about. Sick bastards.

Ah the lifelong Democrat who voted for Trump in the last two elections that “might” vote Republican in 2022. It’s like chasing a girl that turned you down twice because she said she used to date “nice guys like you and might again”. Pass.
