Also of interest (but apparently not in the documentary), a number of ye olde founding daddys had engaged in land speculation and were entirely pissed about some treaty or other that screwed up their land grab.
I saw those signs scattered about various neighborhoods in Seattle last year. A wonderful sentiment being publicly expressed gave me a little hope that not all Americans are fearful bigots.
