I have metastatic cancer and have been doing chemotherapy for a year now. I am fairly tired a lot of the time and go through periods of watching a lot of tv. I also don't feel comfortable spending the extra money on ad free accounts. The flood of pharmaceutical commercials is often very upsetting to me. Cancer related commercials have made me burst into tears more than once and the "no one wants to be known for cancer" one is like being slapped in the face every time I see it.
I hear you... I'm on my second rodeo with this stupid disease and find some of the cancer commercials really upsetting. I generally content myself with shouting "just shut the fuck up" at the TV, but it doesn't always make me feel better.
I can't figure out what Big Pharma is selling with all the ads. It's not like I can walk in to my local CVS and just pick up a bottle of Jardiance. These are all prescribed medications.
The last time I was prescribed a prescription drug that did major tv advertising, I ended up in a 4 day coma and a serious case of TD. Since then I will never again take one of these medications. I also now read the possible side effects before taking anything. I’m about to turn 70 so, yes, I am on a few prescription meds but only ones that are absolutely necessary and have a low risk of severe side effects. That is what “doing your own research“ actually means. Prescription drug ads have replaced cigarette ads. Both will never tell you the truth about what they’re selling.
Jeez! Glad you made it. I’m the same. Especially after COVID. I hate taking meds as I can’t swallow them anyways. And I laughed my ass off at the drugs/smokes reference. You’re absolutely right. Every magazine is loaded. Even online.
If you can name the Gunsmoke episode on TV Land from when you watched it with your great grandfather, and the drug company side effects cause you to remember nursing school, you are suffering from Too Much Time Spent In Waiting Rooms of Doctors Offices Watching Cooking Shows Syndrome.
Check out the anti-national health ad (Canadian, specifically--the only specific detail in the ad) that's just come out. I'm looking forward to an article on that.
Nothing is everythhhing, and Skyrizi costs 24,000 dollars per dose!
I’ve started looking up the cost of these drugs whenever I see the commercials …..it’s crazy.

I want to hear about things we can do to counteract the effects of wet ICE.
Ask your doctor is taking medical advice from random TV ads is right for you.

In the olden days all we worried about was the heartbreak of psoriasis.

This is from this past SNL season, & it's one of my favorite commercial SNL sketches ever:

Robyn dear, please get friendly with the MUTE button on your remote. Practice safe viewing, a public service announcement from a friend.
wait, you lot advertise prescription only medication? wtf?
The wrong Kennedy, Jr crashed into the Atlantic Ocean
I'm sure this isn't an original thought, I just needed to voice it again
The wrong kid died, Dewey Cox!
Remember the Prescott Pharmaceuticals ads from the old Colbert Report? So funny. And the most imaginative side effects.
Hot dog fingers!
That remains my absolute favorite scene from 'Everything Everywhere All At Once' followed closely by the mother/daughter rocks...
I love all of the side effects you can get from some of the fake products in the outer worlds

Do any of these ads include Christian Pulisic? No? Then I'm fine with them.
