Interesting trivia about the "Food Pyramid". Back in the day, we actually had politicians who cared about science. Some scientists saw the childhood obesity epidemic coming, and thought "What should we do about it?". Politicians agreed, and told them to study it, so they did.
Their conclusions were pretty simple: Eat less meat, eat more fruit, veggies, and grains.
So Congress decided to suggest that to the people; and the meat industry lobbyists instantly went ballistic. "How DARE you tell people to use less of our product!! <insert screaming about 'jobs', poor starving ranchers, productivity, hotdogs, hamburgers, The American Way, ad nauseum>." The best that could be salvaged from the wreckage was "servings of this vs. servings of that". The whole idea of "eat less" just expired, and a pyramid was built to house its corpse.
My husband ran into a former co-worker (down here in Australia!) who has embraced the carnivore diet (including butter and cheese lol) and informed him RFK Jr was the first person who actually cared about public health thanks to his new, stupider pyramid.
For context, this man also claimed that he's off all his medicines now (he did not however say that his doctor took him off of them) and that he was achieving the ideal cholesterol level of 300(!) "because cholesterol makes up half your body!"
Like, homie, our bodies MAKE cholesterol. We have no need to inject it directly into our veins.
He's been listening to some American influencer who is apparently a doctor and lives here now for Reasons (definitely not malpractice suits, no.)
TL;DR: do not follow the carnivore diet unless a real medical doctor recommends it (for example for allergies, maybe.) because I love you guiz and do not want you to have cholesterols of 300.
I took a Tai Chi class at a local Senior Citizen center. I liked the women there (one was a lesbian, and we hit it off well). It was predominantly female (I was about the only male there). Then someone brought their husband, and he brought his "buddy", who interrupted every pre-class chit chat with a lectures on how we ALL should go on the "Carnivore Diet!", how it was the best thing he ever did, blah, blah, blah.
It's like a fucking cult.
