That's because women aren't really people. Women are something else and it's scary.

Mostly the latter, but the Silvio Dante lookalike was affiliated with organized crime for real. He also had that same frown/sneer thing going on all the time.

Being a forced-birther and having an NRA A+ rating makes you a 'moderate' in Rhode Island.

Ye gods.

Dick Gregory once said that Rhode Islanders could have a race riot in the back of a taxi. That's the image that I can't forget.

And coffee milk is the state drink. Not Del's lemonade.

Thanks for this. I'm a Rhode Islander and I forget how weird this state's political scene looks to everyone else. It's a hot mess and always has been. (Listen to Crimetown if you haven't already.) We do have some real true-blue candidates running against the establishment machine but they have an uphill fight.

That's actually not a bad place to start, if you can stand the show at all. The only truly funny thing about that show was how all the backgrounds are real place in RI. I can even figure out pretty much which town the family lives in just from their view of the power plant. It's hilarious.

Whoa, slow down there Nelly. Bristol cannot be beat for the 4th of July and Providence has some of the best Italian restaurants anywhere. And that's off the top of my head and pre-coffee.

Dude, I grew up in RI, still live like 3 towns over the state line in MA, and let me fully assure you that, no matter how weird you think this place to be, you truly have absolutely NO CLUE WHATSOEVER exactly the true depths of weirdness of this state. And I say this with all love and a burning desire to move back to RI, even tho I'm only like half an hour down the back roads from my home town.

You want weird? Look up Buddy Cianci. Your brain will explode.

Newport is totally lovely. I adored sailing there, visiting the "cottages," seeing the very unusual indigo color of their hydrangeas. Outside of the island of which Newport is a part, forget RI.

Least anyone come away with the impression that Rhode Island is deficient in the arts,

The Newport Jazz FestivalandThe Newport Folk Festival

were the major events in those two genres of music for quite a few years. Those two series gave me most of my favorite memories of wonderful, dazzling performances. (And a particular concert in upstate NY in 1969 did the same for Rock.)
