Well, it is Austin.

But there are a lot of Texas Democrats. It's just that they're a minority, and also gerrymandered all to fuck.

The passage of time should make a difference. Here in Cali, we had Deukmajian and Wilson from 83 through 98. And Ahnold got RE-elected in 2006. We often had one Repub Senator until 1992. With the present split, turning Texas blue may take another twenty years, but it's coming.

Somebody on huffypoo (yes, I read some of the articles) gave several examples to show how many of Perry's positions are sincerely held, but entirely based on his own personal life experience. E.g., he was originally in favor of HPV vaccination, because his parents both had cancer.

What this reminded me of was St. Ronnie, another white guy with good hair. Reagan often blatantly said shit like [paraphrasing] "The existing system doesn't need to be improved, because it worked fine for me, and I grew up poor".

He seemed never to be able to comprehend that the system might work differently for a 6'4", fairly good-looking white man, than it would for people not meeting that physical specification. That lack of comprehension allowed him to be sincere, which is the biggest reason I hated him, and still hate his memory. His puppeteers destroyed America, and he didn't even notice.

Anyhow, Perry lacks Ronnie's polish, but if he ever studies acting, we may be in trouble.

EDIT: Because, unlike Ronnie, Rick does seem to be a believer. Ron just believed in "Hey, I'm good."

Well, we shall see how many actually show up. I wonder how many will be hired to show up to compete with today's rally?

Yes, it could happen.

And it's the true believers that you really have to worry about. Because they never stop, they just keep on trying to impose their agenda. Not to go full Godwin here, but the guys running the concentration camps didn't stop and run when they knew the Allies were coming; they in fact tried to kill as many as they could before they would have to stop, because they sincerely believed that they were doing the world a favour. Which is why true believers are the real problem.
