Yeah that isn't going to happen once the courts force Elon to buy Twitter. Of course he will run it further into the ground than Truth Social in about half the time.

that is not a bad thing - if it turns into truth social that can only help us - we really don't need Twitter anyway

having a standard of truth or fact to meet would shut a lot of the howling monkey up, but it would also drive them and their rage deeper underground where we can't monitor them

Fair point. If these losers were protesting that, they'd have a valid claim to protecting children. But they ain't.

It's Section 230 of the Telecommunications Act of 1996.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wi...My understanding is that if Section 230 were to be repealed entities like Twitter or Meta (Facebook & Instagram) would have to have all of their users not only be verified but they would have to have all users agree that the user is liable for any blowback from what they post and the entity (Twitter etc.) is merely a disconnected third party that cannot be held liable. I would very much like to see a lot of this anonymous behavior end. The rampant trolling, threatening, doxing and just plain vileness is out of control at this point. It's too easy to be an asshole when you can do it anonymously. Many people say that you can't take anonymity away because then no one will step forward as whistleblowers or be willing to take on the fascists for fear of being easily targeted, and that's true. But whistleblowing can be done without using the internet and if you take internet anonymity away from everyone then the online fascists are just as open to targeting. I'm old and I can tell you honestly that newspapers used to actually require that letters to the editor have full names, addresses, and a phone number; and if they were considering printing your letter they would actually confirm your existence before they did it. Internet anonymity needs to be throttled, but it's probably too late to put that genie back in the bottle.

And where it's much harder for them to spread their shit. It's not perfect, but it's better than letting them pollute public discourse freely.

Ok Ms. Buttons. Some people have disabilities which prevent them from perceiving they shouldn't hit people. By your logic, preventing them hurting others is discrimination against their disability.

Take your bigotry and fuck all the way off.

Your idea would unfortunately make the internet into a hellscape of fascism and capitalism. Every product criticism would be sued, every call for justice would result in police targeting individuals in their homes, especially POC.

Those newspapers you mention, no Black person would have sent a letter to them in the midcentury south because they would have gotten a burning cross on their lawn.

No.

We are committed to ensuring the hospital is a safe and secure place for all who work here and come here.

Thanks to these assholes, there's nowhere in America that is a safe and secure place or all who work here and come here.
