Lawrence O'Donnell made an excellent point tonight (8/17) that can be summed us as "No military doctrine covers a successful fighting retreat." First of all, there have been very few in history. It is, by far, the most difficult battlefield maneuver. Further, to teach such a thing - if, indeed, there is a way to do it in the face of a determined enemy - would be treated as defeatism.

Phyiis Bennis (I hope I spelt her name correctly) made an interesting point about the centralized Afghan government. Not only was it astonishingly corrupt, it was a poor fit for the culture and society. Afghans see themselves as members of a family, a clan, and then a tribe. Loyalty to a national government isn't in their blood.

Be sure to carefully tear off that reply envelope and send it back - even if you forget to include a donation.

I think the publication is a scam - like those fake "surveys" one receives. They can send out a monthly money beg, but account for the costs as education or another part of their "mission," rather than have to include them as fund-raising expenses.

"They kept pushing radical gender politics anyway..."

Radical gender politics = Women are fully human, not objects, things, posessions, servants, or slaves.

I wish there were a Hell to send Tuckems to for punishment, but the only thing we can really count on is finding out that he is criminal in deed as well. Or that the women in his life all up and leave him for good.

So Fucker Carlson thinks we should have held Afghanistan by NOT pushing for civil rights? Like we could keep all of those Southern Strategy former democrats by NOT pushing for civil rights?

Geez--I don't know if we need to even get down the rabbit hole on that. A better standard would be "take in anyone with a plausible claim to be in danger if they had to remain in Afghanistan" or whatever our normal standard for accepting a refugee would be. If that standard has to be eased, fine. But I don't know that we should really be splitting hairs on a lot of that.
