A friend who is a former journalist pointed out that it’s hard to cover Trump, because how many alternate words or phrases can you find for “batshit crazy” when we’ve heard it all before? After years of MAGAT lies and propaganda and outrageous and criminal behavior, we’ve run out of words. We’re not supposed to shame TFG’s followers, but hey, they CHOSE their path.

It might not matter anymore. It seems that Joe Biden is seriously considering dropping out because he might not be able to beat Trump. Media and Democrats are REALLY pushing that hard. Unfortunately, there is no way a successful, incumbent president can be replaced less than 4 months before an election and have any chance of beating Trump and the Nazis. That would be assuming the Democrats actually had a good candidate as a replacement, and they don't. Biden's chances aren't great, but he's the best we've got right now. If he's replaced, Trump wins.

Just confusion alone is enough to throw the election to the Nazis. Americans in general really don't pay attention to much of anything, especially not actual news or politics. On election day, we can expect a large percentage of them to get to the polls, and when they don't see Biden, have to make a snap decision. That will mean a lot of votes lost to a 3rd party or even a write in.

There ARE good candidates, but they haven't been prepared to run. The dems should have had Team B in the wings, but no...

Right.

I question both the wisdom and motivations of anyone hatching these schemes to reshuffle the ticket at the last minute. It seems more likely to cause harm than good to me.

And where were all these supposed genius insiders a year ago? What have they been busy doing instead of having this conversation a year ago when it actually might have been reasonable and feasible to make a smooth transition? Sounds to me like the big money machine is filled with people who are used to running the world by their whims and they got an urge. But down here in real world election land, there is still more to winning an election than just having mountains of money to spend… at least for the moment. :P

Hearing my fellow Democrats gas on and on about this NON- ISSUE* was by far the most dominant and depressing news story of the past week... the week of the RNC Convention, for Christ's sake! We excel at this type of Sarandon-esque navel gazing, taking the wrong side in the war between "perfection" and "good" yet again. It's no wonder we're such easy targets for the loathing and mockery of the right: We've bought and amplified the Republican's ONE AND ONLY argument against Biden's reelection, and we parrot this stupid talking point with a grave sanctimony that is, indeed, laughable. The unfunny joke is on us.

*Again, this is a NON-ISSUE. We discussed the "age issue" ad infinitum in 2020, and resolved it by selecting a great VP candidate who is far more competent and qualified than either of the men at the top of the ticket. We don't have to worry about Biden's age BECAUSE WE ALWAYS HAD A BACKUP PLAN.

In a perfect world, we'd be making the easy case for President Warren's reelection. But to paraphrase our once and future dictators, we go to war with the army we have. Let's snap out of it, people.

I feel your confusion and sadness and even anger over this. It was a con job, people fell for it.

But if we swing behind whomever the nominee then gets to be (it'll be harris, we already had a primary on this knowing she was on the ticket) then we can still beat the orange shitstain.

I do, however, think that Americans are going to know before November, especially the way the press has been beating this drum.

Um, however one feels about the issue writ large, Vice President Harris is out-polling.the presumptive nominee in head-to head matchups in swing states, has been performing brilliantly on the trail, and so long as the issue is resolved prior to state balloting deadlines, we can proceed apace.

Ta, Dom. Ta, Rebecca. Unfortunately my work computer (and its network) are Windoze based. I was never able to start it today, and MIS did not return my call. A few people, including my supervisor, had access. We had no clients with appointments today, so this afternoon one of the patient navigators and I made two home visits to clients who missed their last appointments. I got five services for one, and one for the other. I clocked out half an hour late, but beloved Meccalopolis was patient.

I still believe (and I’m nervously aware that I may be wrong) that the huge 7 million + gap in voting hasn’t changed much in 4 years. Are huge swaths of Biden voters charmed by J6, his 4 federal indictments, 2 sexual assault civil verdicts, $500 million in judgments and a repeat of 2016-20? I’m just not sure where he makes up the 7 million votes. True, it’s not really about the total margin, it’s about winning battleground states, which he lost by a razor thin margin in 2020. Enthusiasm for Biden won’t be high in PA, where Trump was just shot, or AZ or NV. WI and MI will be close again. But it’s not yet certain Joe is the opponent. If Harris runs instead, she will have the advantage of relative youth, and a fresh start after 8 years of some pretty ugly politics. I tend to believe she has the better chance of building momentum in the fall. The animosity toward Trump is still massive, and if we have a vibrant, energized candidate, Trump should lose again.

People may be missing some facts about ol' Corey (the spelling of whose name I heard the Republicans got wrong ... but it would be just like them to try to create some plausible deniability)

And I don't see Baby Cat's opinion as an unpopular one, at least not among sane people

"My unpopular opinion: if you attend a Trump function, you will be exposed to lies, violence, and possibly death. Ashli Babbitt is an example. YOU KNEW IT WAS A SNAKE WHEN YOU PICKED IT UP. RIP Corey. You left your family in crisis for a man who doesn't even know your name."
