Having spent most of my childhood in South Carolina (50s-early 60s) I can assure you that it was not really habitable without air conditioners either, just not nearly as bad as Houston.
I still remember those long nights trying to sleep with bed and pillows soaked in sweat.
When I moved to the Bay Area in September of 2005, I didn't bother to check if my apartment had AC, because of course a nice place in a nice suburb has AC. Fast forward to July of 2006, and it got hot enough for me to want to turn on the AC... and I discovered that there's no AC. 🤦♂️
For the first several years since then, it's only been stupidly hot for a few weeks of the summer, during which time I'm spending most of the day at the office, and I gorge myself on ice cream at night and on the weekend. But more recently, the heat has stretched out to on-and-off for months. And of course right now, I'm spending all day, every day at home instead of the office, so... 🌡
He's on the ticket at least. November is still a click or two out. The virus is keeping me tuned in. Alive or dead, Biden's got my vote. But really, I just need RBG to make it to mid January. If Biden wins, she can retire. If he doesn't, it won't much matter anyway.
Most of the South, actually.
Also too, Florida is a thing because of the AC and hydro-engineering.

Here's to rooting for an august hurricane. The odds are pretty good for it, too.
Gosh, what would be better? Infecting thousands of republican nomenklatura or having them blown away by a hurricane?
Sadly, they won’t have enough sense to stay home and skip this shitshow.
I seem to recall chiggers.

Except during seder, when you keep the cedar and the meat separate.
Could someone please bring some dengue mosquitos up from the Keys.
There is plenty of room for PhD candidates and a comprehensive biographer but I am not in either group.
At this point, if he's the only alternative, I'm ready to vote for Ivan the Terrible.
Maybe some defective grounding on the audio stuff?
Even Chuck Woolery, just a squootch too late.
That time of year is hurricane season in Virginia and they’re always coming up from Florida.
Only seven words. Is it supposed to be repeated?
I need Dave Barry to write about this.
