Toronto Mayor Rob Ford called on Canada's government to decriminalize marijuana Thursday, but later said nah, nevermind, forget it, bad idea you know, he must have been totally wasted to have suggested anything of the sort, and are you going to finish that burrito? You sure?
Fewer municipal resources allocated to chasing down potheads = more resources available for other things, like basically everything else. (Big if, the change is implemented right.) I'm no Rob "Meatball" Ford defender, but this was one of the less nonsensical things he said.
It is very illegal; in fact the current right wing government has increased the severity of punishment for minor possession, just because they loooove prisons so very much.
