Tomay-toe, po-tah-toe -- resolve the debate and have both! Richly satisfying and warmly filling, Potato-Tomato Soup will comfort you through the chill of November. Months ago, I canned fresh tomatoes, and it’s time to put them to good use. What is that you said? You did not can tomatoes? OH OKAY. There are alternatives! Canned tomatoes from the store will work out great, or even 2 ½ lbs. of fresh tomatoes, peeled and sliced. You will need a food processor, blender or food mill. Pick the machine that tears up tomatoes seeds the best and go with it.
As someone who makes a lot of soups that have to be blended, the best investment I ever made was a metal stick blender. You can gret a Cuisinart one for about $35. No more ladling molten lava into a blender in batches and then having it coat the ceiling. Just plop yhe outboard into the soup pot and blend away.
Canning your own tomatoes? I guess when Doomsday Preppers hits Wonkette, it's time to take cover.

I made the chicken and dumplings on Sunday. Oh. My. God. And that was with milk rather than heavy cream. Winner winner indeed.
This recipe doesn't encourage drinking while making it. I am therefore skeptical. Thanks, Obama!
<sigh> Welch's and Jiff on stale wheat bread . . .
