I have to say, it is possible that DeSantis does eventually win over MAGAts. After all, he has been very effective at hurting vulnerable populations. Trump only wishes he was as good at destroying the lives of transgender kids. MAGA ethos is entirely centered arsonist being stupid bullies to anyone who needs help, and DeSantis excels at that.
I think most GOP primary candidates are banking on something happening to Trump that literally takes him out of the race (all the court cases). It's a long shot, but it exists.
