Being relocated becaue of a family decision is different than saying, "This snow is icky, I think I'll brave the guns and alligators and hurricanes and republicans for 70 degree weather on Thanksgiving." That is a tradeoff I don't understand.

You mean you DON'T love 100% humidity and 4 pm thunderstorms every day?

There does seem to be a looming issue with water, though...

Thanks, Ed, that's a thoughtful reply. But I could go on and on about why I would not consider any of your suggested places. I lived and worked in CT for 30 years, all of my "productive years." Maybe now "Connecticut" is just a fond place in my memory. Most of my friends there have died, or moved away. A couple of them found MAGA. I now have three friends in my little condo complex here who are my age and like-minded. Two of them (married) are snowbirds who go home for the summer -- to about 50 miles from where Rebecca's brood moved to. My neighbors hate going home more and more every year and being surrounded by MAGAs.

Science teachers might be able to subvert this; unless Newton and optics are now banned from the curriculum as well.

Answer -- the economics of retirement. at least in my case. Then again, perhaps I'm neither sane nor rational!

I live six miles from Bradenton Beach and I have never even seen it. A couple of friends from Illinois visited me the first winter and insisted on going to the beach. Not knowing any better I tried to ferry them there, leaving at about 8 a.m. The traffic was backed up all the way to I don't know where. I turned around. Of course it's easy to go to the beach this time of year, and it's only about six million degrees F, so maybe...

I imagine retirees have already raised their kids (if any) elsewhere and don’t have to care about the quality of Florida public schools.

Why hasn't the IRS investigated Hillsdale College's fundraising? There is something called "quid pro quo" regarding donations. A non-profit must deduct from any contribution the market value of a premium sent to the donor as a thank you gift. Hillsdale completely ignores that law, and has for years. They "give away" DVD box sets, "Betsy Ross" flags, and other swag, yet provide their contributors with the full value of their donations.

Then Hillsdale, that doesn't pay Federal income tax (or abide by the code, as noted above) claims it receives no government funding.

Isn't there some kind of consequence for flat out lying in your judicial decision? Oh wait, SCOTUS decided to exempt itself from all consequences. Well that worked out just dandy for us.

Gave up Facebook two years ago (on CHRISTMAS), and I'm back on Twitter )but my space is VERY cultivated for myself) and so far it's worked wonders.
