Not sympathy. Just musing whether this was intentional suicide or intoxicant-induced.

Probably both.

It would - but honestly I'm GLAD he's dead, at least this way we know he can't hurt any more Black folx.I hope he's burning in Hell right now and his parents suffer sleepless nights for all eternity knowing they raised a racist murdering coward.

SER has done the impossible. He addressed the horrific practices of law enforcement, those practices that emphasize terrorizing, torturing, and killing BIPOC people, and wrote a cogent and compelling synopsis. Even including some snark. The Malcolm X clip is the wrenching denouement.

I'm so very sorry for your loss.

Yes. But accountability for white, xtian men is un-American. Not since, oh, about never.

Disagree. High-speed chasing down said driver is just ratcheting up the danger to the public. Better to make the punishment so harsh, DL revoked for life, mandatory 1 year sentence, etc.

Make them carry malpractice insurance.

The money isn't the point. Jail for 5 years is.

Most of the time, when the lights go on, people pull over for the cop car. I don't think high speed chases are anywhere near the norm.

Jail or money. Money of up to $5K. Which gives a judge discretion to say, eh, NBD, I'll fine you $20 and we'll call it good.

If jail is going to be the point then jail needs to be mandatory.

If I knew I was staring down the barrel of murder charges, I'd be drunk too. No sympathy for these assholes.

it is like the mob. I met a guy who just quit the state police, he said so much bad stuff went down but those who stood up against it tended to have fatal accidents shortly thereafter.

I am thinking there is a lot of steroid use in police, they need to be drug tested regularly. Plus I have been told the KKK thrives in our northern state police. Local cops are a mix, some great some not so good.

I went to the mayor when one cities police took on a vendetta against my 80 + year old widowed mother who never left home and didn't drive and was recovering from a stroke. They harassed her with phone calls and home visits and threats which they are not allowed to do because they crossed city lines. Lucky my father had been an influential politician and still had friends on the police force of our city and I called and complained to the mayor of that city who was gobsmacked they would do this, he tried to reprimand the police chief, but that resulted in me getting threats and they put a restraining order on me - miss milktoast- , so I called the mayor again and told his secretary who put the mayor on the line because she was so offended. .The restraining order was lifted and I got an apology from the police chief who said my mother would not be bothered again. a few weeks later I read where the police chief retired suddenly. . seems like my sister in law was cheating with a local cop and set them on my Mother and the chief had no problem.

Of course, I could do this because we are white and like I said, my father had a good rep in our larger city. He did a lot of charity work with the local police so we had connections. .

Being white will get you a long way, but not necessarily get you as far as needed. The political connections are probably what got you there. I live in a rural good ol’ boy-governed NC county. I’m lily white. I stay entirely out of trouble with the law. I’ve had a brief moment of clarity regarding our local force. They pulled over a car driven by a bunch of Mexican kids that live up the road, because the young brother had yanked a Trump sign from someone’s yard and they reported it. The older sister was driving without a license, and claimed she was trying to get her bratty brother home safely.

They pulled them over in my driveway because it’s a two-lane country road with no shoulders. No problem. But I overheard the cop tell them to leave their car there and get someone to come get it. I thought it was nice to let them off the hook, actually. But I asked what the protocol is for if they never return for the vehicle he just ordered them to block my driveway with (private property), serious logistical question. Not a critique. But the cop got shitty and said something to the effect of, “You wanna tell me how to do my job some more???” I looked at his calmer partner to explain my intent. He was much more reasonable. Then I told the juicer that I thought they were doing their jobs just fine. He didn’t really seem to register it, but his partner did. I also asked the juicer if he explained to the kids that people around here will shoot them for that type of behavior (because they aren’t white... it was also a serious question and I later gave a talking to at those kids about their safety), and he got excited and happy about that and told me he had.

That was with me standing on my porch, on my property, asking a polite question based on an unusual circumstance, being lily white and fully aware of my rural setting.
