I don't agree with any of you. In the first place, when did it become accepted that any reference to a primate is some kind of slur against black people? It's totally gratuitous. Black people don't remind ME of primates, any more than other complexions. This goes for the guy who said he didn't want to "monkey up" a program too. Monkeys are creatures, and we have ALWAYS talked about them. It has a meaning, that has nothing to do with racial prejudice. People are just aching for a way to be special, and being a "victim" has become the fastest, cheapest route, requiring no discipline or achievement. They are doing NOBODY any good, and just weakening their ownselves by identifying as a victim, when there is no slur intended.
It won't last either way. The other characters may be well-liked, but can they carry a show that reminds the audience of its disgusting former star by her absence in every episode? Trumpkins won't watch because she's not there; others won't watch because she was.
In real life; she dies on the table and the family gets a bill from the hospital that forces them onto the street. Dan dies of septicemia from stepping on a broken bottle. Becky keeps the family eating by 'exotic dancing'. The boy gets shot in a drive-by. Darlene is dumped by her boyfriend when she falls pregnant and has a Downs Syndrome baby.
How To Get An Original Project Made:1. Find an old show or movie that has roughly the same premise.2. Change the names to match.3. Hey presto! It's a reboot!

Maybe recasting Roseanne with Kevin James?
True, but it seems there are more of them now and they are more mainstream.
We used to make fun of the John Birch Society. Not it's running the country.

a rare bit of cheer, that, in a world so often utterly bereft
That's why I used the small "m" i

Two Words: Belinda. Montgomery.
Nothing against Markie Post but I was more of an Ellen Foley fan myself.

They did reboot it, but they call it Brooklyn 99 now.
