As you've watched the Texas Handmaids' Tale- style abortion restrictions go into effect, we bet you've been wishin' and hopin' and prayin' that Ross Douthat, the baby-faced sad-90s-beard-rocking culture scold would share his derp thoughts with you on the matter. Yr Wonkette has been wishing for this fervently and also, too, sobbing inconsolably at the fact that Ross Douthat has a high-profile NYT column. But enough about us. What about Ross? What does Ross think about Texas 'bortions? SPOILER ALERT: he doesn't want ladies to have abortions but rich ladies will still get abortions because of Ireland
(let's see if I can get this one past Censorbot... ETA: yup, removing reference to the particular "song meaning site" allowed me to post, guess it looked too spammy)
Ah, so it is the song. I made the same mistake too, briefly, when I heard it for the first time in years and years a few months ago. As is pointed out on one of the song meanings sites, though, abortions don't get reported in the paper, so the third line establishes it as being about the Bulger murder (still a silly line though, it was simply impossible to avoid the news coverage of that tragic crime). Also, yeah, definitely one of the weakest tracks on No Need To Argue, which still places it above the level of most of, say, Bury the Hatchet (which, even thought I own, I don't recognize a single title in the track listing).
Even the alleged interview quote the forced-birthers use to claim her as one of their own starts "I am in no position to judge other women, you know.", which is pretty much the exact antithesis of the "pro-life" position.
Well, there is evidence that the Irish Government was concerned enough about the Halappanavar tragedy reflecting a larger trend, because they changed their laws in response to the mediaeval senselessness of it all, plus the threat of the European Court of Human Rights getting all sanctiony about it.
Douthat's real job at the NYT is to make the rest of the coumnists look smart.
figure a way to work in some of those sweet farm subsidies and I'm in
OT
it's a boy- BFD
I thought Irish children left Ireland before they were old enough to get pregnant anyway (around age 10 for Irish people)
it would still be available to women with the resources to travel out of state.
Yep...until American Religious Extremists like you make it illegal across the country. fuck all.
And who can blame them?

Actually I think they really just want it never talked about, and the only way to keep it secret and shameful is to make it illegal
You'll probably need fewer than you think, on account of how similar some of them are ;)
AKA Alabama
Now, that is a succinct observation.
Which I assume will link to that asshole Erick Erickson's twitter.
Not "Ass-hat"?
Women needing abortions in Deer Trail, CO, will be out of luck.
