The top line of the sign does not compute.

My grades, as a young post-teen, for touch typing and creative writing were given out by my peers on BBS private chat and AIM.

Apparently I got good marks, as I had a fairly constant demand for more... Even got me married, once.

I did nuclear physicist once and cognitive psychologist the other time. I was very fortunate to have supportive teachers.

I have to agree with the contextual nuance you add.

I serve as "Personal Credit & Loan" for a short list of friends, and the biggest hurdles I have to overcome are: a) pride and shame about asking - if you need it to function, fucking ask me. And ask me soon enough that you miss the bank charges! b) borrowing "just enough" which turns out to not cover the need - if you "need" $100 to just scrape by, take the $300 I am telling you to, and don't have "oops" bank fees for $150 next week, goddamit! I'm loaning it for *your* benefit, not the bank's!

Wealthy has ranges. :-) I am NOT wealthy for one set of friends, and am comfortably wealthy for another.

Here in Person county, the focus from people in relatively safe seats was "Don't make Republicans mad." This was a tropism among the Bernie people too. We had to rely on people from Durham and Chapel Hill to go knock doors, primarily older women.

When the presidential campaign rolls around,we'll rely on staffers from the big campaigns, elderly black women, and help from the liberal counties. The current chairman of our Democratic Party will fight them every step of the way. He will break his back bending over to suck Republican dick.

Southerners will kiss ass all day for someone they perceive as having more money. They bled through a war of attrition and even prolonged it because they loved the taste of ass so good.

But it's hard to fight when you don't know how to make goddamn shoes.

You get it--thank you! Ditto the "pride & shame about asking" and bless you for being the personal bank for your set of friends who need help.

Fascinating, and thx for the info! It's great to be able to compare notes on Democratic Party conduct in different areas of the South.

Confession: Never made it through Moby Dick. That and Foucalt's Pendulum are probably the only two books I've started and never finished.

[snerk] I think it was 5th or 6th grade. I was bored to shit with the crap we were being taught, so I was sitting quietly at my desk folding origami cranes. Teacher came up and said "What are you doing?" in THAT tone of voice. I calmly informed her I was folding origami cranes, and she sent me to the principal's office. I was asked "why are you here?" and I 'splained. I spent a lot of time that year helping with office stuff like filing...

This state drives me straight 'round the twist, for pretty much that reason. (Among many, many others...)

While I like Stacey Abrams, I do think that in terms of toughness and relevant experience she's not the equal of Kamala Harris, which is where my money is going. Harris has won three statewide races in California, which is helpful experience for someone who's running nationwide, and showed her mettle during the Kavanaugh hearings.Actually, I could support any of the current crop of Democratic candidates except for Kirsten Gillibrand, whose only accomplishment since she's been in the Senate was ratfucking Al Franken.
