Well, yes... exactly... it's what he (oor, rather his government) has said for the last couple of years. ... their justification being they are "recovering" what the Russians consider "rightfully" Russian.

Which makes starting this war even more incredibly shortsighted. Ukraine was already shrinking by 300 000 people a year. All he had to do was wait, or convince Ukraine to allow immigration of Russians.

"Vova" or "Volodya" are the common diminutives for "Vladimir"in Russia (my grandmother's country).

"Vlad" is actually usually short for Vladislav and is most typically Romanian (my grandfather's country).

Russia wants to screen the evacuated Ukrainians for thought criminals. The peaceful ones will be escorted to a temporary camp in the interior. Or, they could murder them all in place, whatever.
