I neglected to ask earlier: Is it reasonable to consider a tautology a form of analogy? (Not an English major, here). I mean, in math, "A is similar to A" would be considered a correct subcase of "A is similar to B".

“If he was buried in a jail… it would be like burying something of enormous value.”

...and if he is made to be someone's prison bitch it would be like making a bitch of a really, really totally nice person.

Engngnh, in this instance the prosecutors did the right thing. Better to let the snake-oil salesman off easy to get the elected official to do some time. Jonnie'd be happy man in the pen: a huge captive audience to fleece! Whereas all McDonnel's got to sell them is his hypocritical cynical Catholicism, or his ass.
